The Scottish Government are holding in-person sessions to seek the views of social workers, social work students and those involved in social work learning about the development of a Social Work Career Resource (formerly the Advanced Social Work Practice Framework for Social Workers). We want the Career Resource to support social workers to build fulfilling impactful careers which are supported through continuous learning. These in-person sessions will be configured as focus groups to allow participants to share their own experiences of learning & development and how this influences or could influence career planning in the social work workplace. We are committed to ensuring the Career Resource has relevance and is a tool which social workers can use to align learning and development opportunities, professional knowledge and career pathways. Weekend Course: Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 August 2024 Day 1: 10am to 5.00pm Day 2: 10am to 5.00pm The Lansdowne House studio, Glasgow West end and The Indigo plot This two day immersive course in Indigo pigment and Yellow dye is about gaining hands on knowledge on working with plant to secure colour on cloth. The plants used will be collected on the Glasgow based #theindigoplot at the Glasgow Botanical garden and the work carried out in The Lansdowne House studio both in the West of Glasgow. We will collect colour and use it to create, blue, yellow and green shades on silk and linen material. We will study the different way of using Indigo pigment, work with both Japanese Indigo and Woad pigment and different types of fibers. The recipes used are tried and tested traditional natural dyes recipees and can be duplicated. You will leave with a number of samples on wool yarn and silk fabric and sound knowledge about working directly with plant for colour. You can be a complete beginner on this class. The unique class is made possible by the availability of Fresh plant material grown @ #theindigoplot the natural dye garden of Elisabeth Viguie Culshaw, dye and textile artist. The plants are grown there by a group of volunteers. Our samples will be cleaned and neutralised and all colours obtaines will be colourfast. Samples will be splits between participants and you will be given some notes to be able to duplicate those techniques. `There will be an option to dye some additional pieces you will have with you wether it is yarn or fabric. I welcome inquisitive students and problem solving is one great feature of this "residency" During the two days we will make tea and coffee together and take breaks but i can not provide food. There is a local supermarket/deli for sandwiches/salads just around the corner. I would recommend you bring something in with you to avoid wasting valuable time at lunchtime break. How Speed Dating Works in Glasgow When you arrive at the Glasgow venue you will be greeted by our friendly professional hosts. Once everyone has arrived and registered we will briefly explain the format of the evening. The ladies will then be asked to make their way to their allocated table. Good ventilation is essential for healthy, comfortable, and resilient buildings—but as mechanical systems become more dominant, it's critical to ask: are we designing for long-term wellbeing, or creating new dependencies? This event explores why ventilation matters—not just for compliance or technical performance, but for occupant health, comfort, and the psychological benefits of environmental control. As buildings increasingly rely on mechanical systems, understanding building physics, material choices, and passive design strategies becomes more important than ever. Through case studies and discussion, we’ll demonstrate how to design for indoor air quality while considering flexibility as well as ethics. We’ll look at how passive and natural ventilation, and low-impact construction materials can support both regulatory standards and 'passive survivability'—the ability for buildings to remain safe and comfortable during power outages or emergencies. It’s a relaxed start with time to mingle and meet fellow attendees. We’ll then hear from our inspiring keynote speaker, sharing their personal experience of stroke and what they’ve learned along the way. Next, you’ll take part in your first interactive discussion session — chosen by you during registration — on topics ranging from fatigue and aphasia to returning to work, carers’ support, and more. Afterwards, we’ll break for lunch (included in your ticket), giving everyone time to recharge, connect, and enjoy informal conversations with others who truly understand what life after stroke is like. Meet our Keynote Speaker: Amy Callaghan Amy Callaghan was elected as a Member of Parliament at 27 years old, having worked in the Scottish Parliament for two MSPs (one a serving Scottish Government Minister), in 2019. Amy went on to lead for her party as their front bench spokesperson for health, campaigning for fairer more equitable access to healthcare and standing firm against the causes of health inequality. Amy survived melanoma as a teenager and a brain haemorrhage soon after being elected during the first covid lockdown, following this she successfully campaigned to make the House of Commons more accessible for MPs with disabilities and long term health conditions by introducing proxy voting. Amy returned to work with no support from medical professionals involved in her care and credits Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland tech-enriched rehab at the University of Strathclyde for getting her back to the House of Commons.
