Join acclaimed author and master writing coach Sarah Selecky on Tuesday, April 1 at 6:30 p.m. for a meditative writing workshop on maintaining your creative spark. Whether you're beginning your writing journey anew or seeking to deepen your relationship with an existing project, this workshop invites you to step into a state of calm fascination that integrates both conscious craft and unconscious awareness into your writing practice. Inspired by her newest book, Story Is a State of Mind, Sarah will guide you through exercises, freewriting prompts and deep noticing practices that invite mindfulness into the act of writing. Leave with fresh material, reliable techniques for accessing your creativity, and a renewed sense of possibility in your writing life. To support our non-profit programming and to help us cover costs, this workshop is $10 . More about the facilitator: Sarah Selecky is the author of This Cake Is for the Party, a finalist for both the Giller Prize and Commonwealth Prize for Best First Book in Canada and the Caribbean, and was longlisted for the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award. The New York Times called the stories “utterly fascinating.” Her novel Radiant Shimmering Light was optioned by Amy Adams for HBO. Selecky holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia and brings a contemplative approach to her work as an author and writing mentor. In 2011, she founded the Sarah Selecky Writing School, fostering a global community of writers dedicated to developing both craft and creative intuition. She lives in Prince Edward County, Ontario. In this workshop you do scenes and get feedback. We keep it light, we keep it fun, we keep it scenes and we keep it feedback. The goal is to identify a skill, a block, and/or an opportunity for each improviser, and then to create opportunities and approaches to rep it out. This class has been a boon for many an improviser, and is often a great way to open up some big next steps in your improv! This class is open to anyone who has completed Intro 2 or higher and often features a mix of all levels. Playing with different levels is part of the opportunity we get in a scene study class, let’s enjoy it! This community-focused walking program is designed for everyone—no matter your current fitness level. Whether you’re just starting to move more, have limited mobility, or are already active, this program offers a plan tailored to your needs. You’ll improve your strength, balance, and flexibility through walking intervals and exercises in a supportive environment. Developed by a kinesiologist, Walking to Wellness is designed to make fitness enjoyable and achievable for everyone. It offers gradual, personalized training to help you build fitness, strength, and endurance based on your unique abilities and goals. This session is free to attend and runs every Tuesday morning at the Mount Pleasant Community Centre in Vancouver. We will meet in the gym. Look for the volunteers in the Kidney Foundation Lanyards. Bring your runners and wear what you are comfortable walking in. We will be walking inside the gym unless the weather encourages us to get outside. The session starts with a warm up activity that is adaptable to anyone's ability and then we will start our walking intervals that are adjustable to the pace you are comfortable with. In this fun and creative art therapy workshop, participants will create a self-portrait collage using a variety of materials such as magazines, stickers, newspapers, colorful washi tape, fabrics, textured paper, yarn, and many other creative supplies. The ukulele will serve as the central theme, symbolizing joy, harmony, and self-expression. Participants will have the opportunity to select images and elements that refelct different aspects of their identity, while the washi tape, yarn, and other materials will add vibrant textures, layers, and depth to their collages. To further enhance the experience, music will be available as an optional backgroud, creating a lively and playful atmosphere that encourages creativity and self-reflection. While the music isn't mandatory, it will help inspire a fun, energetic vibe to the creative process. This workshop is designed to provide a playful, expressive space where participants can explore and celebrate their identity through art, using a wide range of materials and the uplifting influence of music.
