Join us to experience acro as an interface for physical connection The word “acro” is derived from the Greek akros, meaning “extremities” – parts of the human body that we use as an interface to connect with the physical world. With this weekly recurring gathering, we will dive into a playful exploration of physics by utilizing our akros. We will interact with a diverse set of props like balls, sticks and ropes to explore finding balance, giving and receiving forces and momentum. Help create a new acro vocabulary that is relatable and hence accessible by everyone Imagine exploring foot to foot not just as foot on foot but vertically stacked and aligned bodies in any way that is your own. This gathering is an invitation to explore what lies beyond the body-centric acroyoga jargon, and break free from acro poses and patterns! An opportunity to craft an acro practice that is open to all, where a unifying vocabulary rooted in physics empowers our moves and connects diverse bodies in magical ways. Share your movement story during our movement potluck style warm-ups, witness the group translate it to their own bodies through playful exploration. Share your discoveries with the group during our choreo exercises and celebrate the joy of acro's boundless language created by everyone in the room. Bring it all the awe and excitement we generate together back to the ground with a partner massage at the end. This event blends into the second event, Acro Explorations. The Foundations and the Explorations are independent from each other so one can choose to attend one or the other or both. Participants can join the events solo, partnered or as a group. They are free to stay solo, partnered or within their pod, or change partners during the class or form new groups of more than two bodies. Join us, unite in curiosity, and move together! Price for event: $30 Early Bird, $35 day of Schedule 730pm - 930pm Bio Kadir is a San Francisco based emerging performing artist offering weekly acro classes at Center SF and Menlo Park Academy of Dance. Kadir has had an unconventional history of training in acro. Kadir's acro journey began 15 years ago when he met his first acro partner in 2008, a Japanese humanoid robot called CB2, also known as the world's creepiest robot. Kadir was tasked with developing software so that the robot could get up from the ground when a human partner pulled it by its arms, and balance with them. While working on this project, Kadir unknowingly wrote source code that laid the foundation for his acro practice. In 2015, Kadir co-organized a 3-day yoga festival on the college campus with over 1,000 participants. There were no acro classes in Turkey at the time, so Kadir ended up teaching a series of acroyoga workshops before he took any acro classes himself. Kadir was born in Istanbul, the beautiful city that gave San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge its name. In 2016, he immigrated to SF. Since then, he has helped facilitate weekly acroyoga classes and offered workshops at various locations in the city, including Aerial Artique, SF Pole & Dance, Bay JiuJitsu, Yoga Tree and Yogaworks. In the last 5 years, Kadir has been offered scholarships to train with Axis Dance Company and Pilobolus Dance Company as he continued his search for an acro practice that is equally accessible for people of all minds and all bodies. Kadir is excited for the Center’s invitation to share and grow this practice with the community. ** no refunds or exchanges are available for this event - you can sell or gift your ticket to a friend** Information Source: The Center SF | eventbrite

Bay Area queer artist Criibaby is celebrating the release of their first album, and what better way than in community?! This will be a multi-faceted event offering a little something for everyone: - Free clothes swap - Vibey laid back music - DIY mini succulent crafting workshop (all materials provided while supplies last, any skill level welcome!) - Warm tea & treats (this is a alcohol-free event!) - Queer community hang/opportunity to meet new people in a relaxed, low-pressure environment! Come with an open heart and a bag of clothes to donate, and leave with a new treasure and a new friend. There's nothing like the bouncy, bubbly feeling of hanging out with community. Don't miss this! ABOUT THE ARTIST: As queer people, we often find solace in the worlds we build- for us, by us. So when rising queer artist Criibaby thought, “What would gender-neutral music sound like?” she knew: they had to create it. Using a unique songwriting method she describes as possessing “no names, no genders, only the feelings, only the bare truths,” Criibaby’s lyrics contain no binary pronouns, and all their songs are written from an openly queer perspective in a conscious effort to create more inclusive music. Drawing inspiration from artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Portishead, Clairo, and Radiohead, Criibaby asks, “What is more human than heartbreak?” and tries to untangle the fragile beauty of yearning for human connection with her delicate, emotional vocals. Their debut album, when i’m alone i feel weightless, is set for release wherever you listen to music on September 6. “Dreamy... if you're looking for a new jam to add to your romantic playlists, look no further.” - Billboard Criibaby's debut album is a bisexual fairytale. - GO MAG a gorgeous tune about queer summer love. - KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic Information Source: SF LGBT Center | eventbrite

The text block is fundamental to creating any typographic system, whether on the page or on screen. But what typeface to use and at what size? How do we determine line length and leading? And what about readability and hierarchy? Over the course of two days, we will examine typographic details as well as overarching principles from the letter to the page. We will begin by considering the interdependence between type size, leading, line length, ragging, and justification. And after an introduction to traditional methods of shaping the page, we will set continuous text within the grids of a single-column and multicolumn page. We will be drawing from the extraordinary resources available to us at the Letterform Archive, in particular their library of historic type specimen books. This two-day in-person workshop is for anyone in need of a refresher on setting a well-behaved text block. Basic knowledge of InDesign is required. Learning Outcomes Learn to pay attention to the details of letterforms.Become mindful of the intervals of space between letters (kerning and tracking).Refine awareness of typographic grain, color, and density as well as the silhouette of the text block.Understand how to establish hierarchy and organization in page layout.Set type well—and with more confidence!Angie Wang is a designer and educator who specializes in typography and typographic systems. FREE EVENT/ NO TICKET REQUIRED. My Father Xu Beihong: Music Inspired by His Art by Xu Fangfang 我的父親徐悲鸿:他的藝術喚起的音樂,来自作家:徐芳芳 Join us for a special event at the San Francisco Public Library where Xu Fangfang will share her musical compositions inspired by the art of her father, Xu Beihong. Experience a unique blend of art and music with presentation in this intimate setting. Don't miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in the creativity and passion of Xu Fangfang's work. See you there! Xu Beihong (1895-1953), Chinese artist and art educator, is widely known as the father of modern Chinese painting. His animal paintings often subtly express deeper meanings through his use of analogy, which achieves the richest expression found in traditional Chinese painting. Jiang Wenye (1910-1983),Chinese composer and music educator, was among the earliest to write Chinese music for Western orchestra and piano. Xu Fangfang will introduce her new book, Xu Beihong’s Color-And-Ink Paintings-Piano Concerto by Jiang Wenye Discovered After Half a Century, describing how Jiang Wenye’s hand-written score of the piano concerto portraying Xu Beihong's color-and-ink paintings was lost and brought to life after its recovery half a century later. As the first composer to bring Xu Beihong’s paintings to the piano and orchestral stage, Jiang Wenye’s work adds richness to the use of analogy in Xu Beihong’s two ink brush rooster paintings. The publication of Xu Beihong’s Color-And-Ink Paintings, including selected color prints of Xu Beihong’s masterpieces and the full score and two-piano score of the third movement, demonstrated the two masters’ historic integration of Chinese and Western art. The concerto’s world premiere on October 22, 2022, in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, showed the successful artistic integration of Jiang Wenye’s music with Xu Beihong’s paintings to the entire world. Beihong China Arts - Website. Xu Fangfang will perform two Chinese piano pieces related to the book, present high-quality images of Xu Beihong's artwork and conduct book sale and signing after her talk.
