A love story in the city of dreams . . . Perhaps no other LA film is so steeped in the mythos and mystery of our complex city and its spectres of burning hopes and broken dreams as David Lynch 's MULHOLLAND DRIVE (2001). As part of YesterdayLA, the Philosophical Research Society’s monthlong exploration of Los Angeles history, 7th House Screenings is proud to present the late master's enigmatic dream logic masterpiece, one of the most monumental works of 21st Century cinema and one of the greatest Los Angeles films ever made. This special screening will be accompanied by an appearance and performance by the film's Club Silencio "Llorando" chanteuse, Rebekah Del Rio ! Blonde Betty Elms (Naomi Watts) has only just arrived in Hollywood to become a movie star when she meets an enigmatic brunette with amnesia (Laura Harring). Meanwhile, as the two set off to solve the second woman’s identity, filmmaker Adam Kesher (Justin Theroux) runs into ominous trouble while casting his latest project. Of its plot, The New York Times's A.O. Scott wrote, "Its tangled story will be experienced by some as an offense against narrative order, but the film is an intoxicating liberation from sense, with moments of feeling all the more powerful for seeming to emerge from the murky night world of the unconscious." Lynch’s seductive and scary vision of Los Angeles’s dream factory is one of the true masterpieces of the new millennium, a tale of love, jealousy, and revenge like no other. Do not miss your chance to see this shadowy, "poisonous valentine to Hollywood" in one of the city's oldest centers for esoteric mysteries – replete with an unforgettable performance by Rebekah Del Rio ! Dir. David Lynch, 2001, 146 mins, United States, English, Rated R, Digital. TICKETS: $12 (In Person Event Only) Please email events@prs.org or phone 323-663-2167 with any questions. This evening's guest, Rebekah Del Rio ABOUT REBEKAH DEL RIO Singer/songwriter Rebekah Del Rio, as seen in David Lynch’s “Mulholland Drive”, is well known for her unique style which is perhaps best represented in her signature song, the wrenchingly beautiful ballad “Llorando”, a Spanish-language version of Roy Orbison’s “Crying,” As seen in Twin Peaks The Return Episode 10 "No Stars" by Rebekah, John Neff and David Lynch, himself, Rebekah continues to take the listener to that other world of dreams. Learn more about Rebekah on her website! Follow Rebekah on Instagram ABOUT YesterdayLA This June, the Philosophical Research Society celebrates our beloved city’s rich and diverse past with YesterdayLA , a month-long exploration of unique stories and works of art that have become part of the fabric of Los Angeles history. Saturday Night Speed Dating @ Espelette at Waldorf Beverly Hills - June 14th 2025 Ages: 25-39 | 5PM 9850 Wilshire Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA 90210 For more information visit us at: DoRelishLA.com Or email us at: info@dorelishla.com http://www.dorelishla.com We think the best relationships are forged when we are comfortable, relaxed and free of pressure. Preferring instead to think of the evening as a casual night out where one can truly be themselves. We do not use traditional 'speed dating' offerings such as bells, whistles and name-tags. Instead we focus on creating an atmosphere conducive to meeting others; a great venue, a personable host and a staff to assist. Upon arriving at your chosen event - locate your event host. Your host will assist in setting you up with your scorecard for the evening. A simple and convenient way to keep track of whom you enjoyed meeting and those that you would like to see again. Should you have any questions - feel free to ask away. Take the time before the event starts to settle in - have a beverage if you would like and mingle should you wish. The speed dating portion of the event begins once all daters have arrived, checked in and had a moment or two to relax and unwind. During the event, Ladies will stay seated and the Gentleman will rotate from table to table every 5 - 6 minutes. Our host will guide the Gentleman to let them know when their time is up and facilitate in seeing them to the next table. The goal is to find someone you would like to speak with further. Don't fret about figuring out if person is the one or the perfect person for you. Consider it the date before the date. Select those you would like to meet again and give the completed scorecard back to your host at the end of the evening. Our staff will tabulate the results and email you the following day with your results. If you choose someone and they chose you - it's a match. You will be given each others first name and email address. The rest is up to you. -- For those that prefer the same simplified experience in Matchmaking, we offer our 'Date-Nights' free of contracts and commitments. With packages ranging from $595 to $945. Arts Fine Art
Dear Community, Juneteenth is more than a holiday, it is a sacred celebration of resilience, a testament to Black liberation, and a reminder that freedom is both a hard-won victory and an ongoing journey. This year, as we gather under the banner of FREEDOM, we invite all of Los Angeles to stand with us in unity, to honor the past, celebrate the present, and envision a future where Black joy, creativity, and dignity flourish. At Black in Mayberry, we believe art is power. It tells our stories, fuels our movements, and bridges divides. From June 19–28, we'll hold space for Black expression, joy, history and conversation is an act of resistance and reverence. This is your invitation to celebrate boldly, learn deeply, and invest in the cultural legacy that shapes America. Together, let’s protect the freedoms we cherish. ‍ —Black in Mayberry OUR-STORY Brought to the Americas in chains, were people stolen from their land, torn from the arms of loved ones and separated from their identities. This torment would last from 1619 to 1865. During this time, they suffered under heinous acts of violence, inconceivably brutal conditions, and psychological torture and manipulation that would last centuries. As their oppressors attempted to break their mind, body and spirit, what could not be taken from them was the ethos of Africa. Even while their bodies ached and bones grew tired, they set their gaze forward and they refused to die. As they continuously made something out of the nothing they were given, they would create a new world. Their hands turned their sweat and their blood into the soil as they laid the foundations of what would become America; each brick stacked on top of Black bodies, ingenuity, history and culture. JUNETEENTH Finally, on January 1, 1863 President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, officially abolishing slavery in Confederate states. Yet, word had not reached enslaved African-Americans in Texas until June 19, 1865 when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas. There, he issued General Order No. 3, announcing the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in Texas. Juneteenth, as it came to be known, commemorates this day and is celebrated as the end of slavery in the United States. Commonly known as Freedom Day. FREEDOM: Juneteenth Art Exhibition OverviewA Celebration of Black Art, Liberation & Legacy Immerse yourself in a transformative showcase of Black creativity at the FREEDOM: Juneteenth Exhibition, where art becomes a vessel for storytelling, resistance, and joy. From the author of Just Some Stupid Love Story, an IRRESISTIBLE ROM-COM about what happens when a cruise ship romance goes...overboard Hope Lanover needs a vacation. Her relationship has imploded, her creative ambitions have flatlined, and she can't seem to locate the badass girl she used to be. So when her best friend invites her on a luxury cruise, she goes along with it, despite decidedly not being a cruise person. Felix Segrave, a sober, determinedly single, workaholic chef, hates leaving his restaurant and routine. But when his parents surprise him and his sisters with cruise tickets, he can't say no--he's disappointed them too many times in his troubled past. Hope and Felix are prepared to grin and bear it . . . until they lock eyes at check-in. Suddenly ten days in the Caribbean doesn't seem so bad, if it means a fling with a sexy stranger. But when their romantic demons catch up to them and a huge fight leaves them stranded in paradise, they must work together--not to mention share a bed--to make their way home. Can they navigate the stormy seas of love or will they face romantic shipwreck? Information Source: Book Soup | eventbrite
