Botanist Anna Atkins published her detailed and meticulous botanical images using the cyanotype photographic process in her 1843 book, Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions, the first ever printed with photos. After developing your cyanotype in the sun, rinsing and drying it, we will have needles and thread available for you to use to sew your 5” x 5” patch onto a clothing piece or bag of your choice if you wish. About the instructor: Megan Bainbridge is a lens-based artist from Saco, Maine. She graduated in 2023 with a dual degree in Photography (B.F.A.) and Sociology (B.A.) from the University of Hartford. As a fine artist, she explores personal and sociological topics through various avenues. She is interested in topics such as dual nationality, ethical tourism, and food additive safety advocacy. Until being introduced to basketry by Jackie Abrams and Lois Russell in 2015 and 2016, she primarily worked with textile materials. She joined the Northeast Basketmakers Guild in 2016 and has increased her basketry knowledge from the many wonderful teachers at the annual Gathering, as well as at other basketry events. Now as a sculptural artist she works with a wide variety of materials, though rooted in textile and basketry techniques. The 70th annual Christmas Ship Parade in Portland, Oregon presents the Christmas Ship Dinner Cruise. This thrilling holiday parade on the water is unlike any other. The parade, which started with just one decorated boat, has now become a volunteer organization featuring dozens of boats each season. The privately owned vessels come from various areas including Portland, Vancouver, McMinnville, Salem, and Hood River. The Christmas Ship Fleet offers a 2 ½ hour cruise on the Willamette River, where visitors can enjoy a three-course dinner prepared fresh on board, live piano music, and a great view of the Christmas Ships. A Drunk Christmas Carol Vol. 4: Mrs. Fezziwig's Dirty Little Secret is a highly anticipated event in Portland. The show is a unique take on Dickens’ classic Christmas story, with a professional actor performing the role of Scrooge after consuming five shots of whiskey. The performance is part scripted and part improvised, with a troupe of professional improvisers attempting to keep the story on track while being sidetracked by wacky audience suggestions. The event also includes an ugly sweater contest, holiday-themed cocktails, gift giveaways, and a 50-50 raffle. The festivities will take place at the Brunish Theatre from December 21st to December 21st, with the show starting at 7:30 pm. The event promotes healthy drinking and does not condone excessive drinking. Two royal audience members will have the power to stop the show and make the actors do their bidding, including spinning the Wheel of Fate, which could result in terrible accents and over-acting.
