Together, we will dissect each artwork and have an intimate discussion about rice, folklores and more! About the Artist Cynthia Delaney Suwito is a visual artist who explores the theme of everyday objects and experiences. She uses observational humour to explore such daily phenomena as the omnipresence of instant noodles, the misfortunes of plastic bags, the misuse of clothes pegs, and the perpetual turning of toilet paper rolls. Her work gives spaces for everyday objects to challenge its own mundanity. Her work takes varied forms, many of which are site specific, interactive sculptures and installations. Born in Indonesia and based in Singapore, Cynthia completed her Bachelor in Fine Arts, at LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore. Cynthia was featured on BBC Asia and CNA, and was in the 2017 FORBES 30 under 30 Asia in the Arts. This event marks the Asian premiere of artist, academic, and agitator Tan Kai Syng’s lecture performance the author conceived to launch her monograph, Neuro-Futurism and Re-Imagining Leadership: An A-Z towards Collective Liberation (Palgrave Macmillan, 2024). An uproarious manifesto that blazes new ways to think about and perform ‘leadership’, the book offers a change-making heuristic tool kit to individuals and institutions that want to challenge normative structures of power and knowledge. Practicing tentacular thinking, Kai Syng concocts a unique intersectional recipe for ‘neuro-futurism’ out of an eclectic mix of discourses, including creative pedagogy, critical studies, social justice, altermobilities, and Daoist cosmology among others. The lecture performance will be followed by a conversation with Karin Oen, NTU CCA Director. A limited number of copies will be available for purchase. Kai Syng Tan PhD, PFHEA (she/they) is an award-winning artist, academic, agitator, and Associate Professor in Arts and Cultural Leadership at the University of Southampton, United Kingdom. Hyperactive and tentacular, Kai seeks to embody the possibilities of ‘artful leadership’ in her actions and approaches. They are a research leader of 6 global research networks, including the Neurodiversity In/& Creative Research Network, as well as a trans-disciplinary innovator, a change-maker, an artist, curator, creative director, and more. Kai is also an expert advisor for UK and Singapore government bodies and international research councils. These multiple capacities inform her artistic strategies and creative insights in developing her vision for a more equitable future. They were Artist-in-Residence at NTU CCA Singapore in 2018 and 2019. Information Source: NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore | eventbrite

If you do not have a myLibrary username, you can create one here: https://account.nlb.gov.sg About the Programme Join Wild Dot, a featured CANVAS/S artist, to go around the various artworks in the exhibition while listening to the conceptualisation and stories behind the artworks. Together, we will dissect each artwork and have an intimate discussion about rice, folklores and more! About the Artist Wild Dot is a nature-guided studio from Singapore started by Shirin Rafie and Liz Liu in 2020. Combining their interests in art, botany, and design, they have been experimenting with inks and pigments from plants and earth found in Singapore, and are just beginning to uncover the stories behind the colours people make. Their mission is to share the joy and labour of colour making through designing playful artmaking experiences with others. They also hope that the process of making can be an accessible way for more people to form more meaningful relations with the environment. About CANVAS/S: Tales as New as Time Take a fresh look at an old tale with our exhibition series CANVAS/S: Tales as New as Time. With art installations that respond to the story of “The Two Widows” as depicted in Singapore Children’s Favourite Stories, come experience the exhibition happening at Jurong Regional Library on 17 January to 17 March 2025. Each iteration of CANVAS/S is proudly helmed by local artists or collectives. At the exhibition, get up close and personal with the artworks and discover more about the techniques and thought process behind the art. Looking for a deeper experience? Sign up for the various engagement activities and exhibition tours led by the artists themselves! Information Source: GoLibrary | National Library Board, Singapore | eventbrite
