The Swiss mezzosoprano Sarina Weber received her Bachelor and Master of Arts with distinction from the Zurich University of the Arts under Prof. Lina Maria Åkerlund. She received valuable impulses from renowned personalities such as Margreet Honig, Sandra Trattnigg, Ivan Konsulov, Dr. Flavio Ferri-Benedetti as well as Marcin Koziel, Michael Richter, Hans Adolfsen and Christoph Berner. The singer discovered her passion for dance and acting at a young age, which laid the foundation for her love of opera. In 2020, her talent was recognized with the coveted Friedl Wald Scholarship. Today, with a rapidly increasing frequency of devastating floods and extended periods of severe drought, attributed to climate change, we are forced to fundamentally reposition ourselves vis-a-vis the mental image and lived reality of the Rhine river and its delta. Recent proposals for walls and levees, floodscapes, rain gardens and other water management and retention techniques will likely not prepare us sufficiently for the extreme circumstances we will encounter in the coming years. It is about time to rethink our relationship with (a lack of) water, or wetness, and generate images and ideas beyond the more traditional representations of rivers, such as topographic maps and diagrams. During this event at the Goethe-Institut Amsterdam, we invite you to become part of a dress rehearsal (and scenography) that aims to reimagine our position as part of the Rhine river delta, in five different acts. Through sonic, spatial, spoken and visual elements, we will gather and move around a landscape where boundaries become fluid and positions unstable, asking ourselves how to live in a world of - what Dilip da Cunha calls - ubiquitous wetness? Guests joining the conversation are among others landscape architect Dirk Sijmons, and artist and researcher Zahra Malkani. The event is part of the Rhine River Rehearsal, an artistic research project by practice for cultural transformation Loom, engaging with the Rhine river as a complex and ever-changing environment that is both affected by and contributing to a rapidly changing climate. During the fall of 2024, the Loom members followed and deviated from the river, while engaging with the multitude of communities occupying its (past and future) banks, its soil, water and non-human habitats. They challenge the notion of the river as a line, questioning dichotomies between land and water, center and periphery and urban and rural, while absorbing a multiplicity of languages that surround the river, as well as past and future floodings and boundaries of the Rhine that continously redefine the river. Following a number of Wetness Walks across a.o. Amsterdam’s canal district and the Tegebau-Hambach open-pit coal mine in Germany, this event - or rehearsal - is the first in a series of Wetness Talks that will be organized by Loom in close collaboration with cultural partners, scholars, artists and others. De tentoonstelling bestaat uit een installatie van ongeveer 30 sculpturale vazen, voor een deel Raku geglazuurd, die in het patroon van een plattegrond van een stad zijn opgesteld. Tijdens de opening zal Jo Barnett samen met Food kunstenaar Uno Fuijsawa ter plekke een Ikebana creatie van groente in twee ongeglazuurde vazen maken. De sculpturen doen denken aan industriële of brutalistische landschappen. Het brutalisme, als stroming in de architectuur, kenmerkt zich onder meer door het gebruik van ruw beton, een materiaal dat eigenschappen van klei heeft en daardoor vaak een sculpturaal uiterlijk aanneemt. Zoals bekend staat het gebruik van beton tegenwoordig onder druk vanwege de milieuschadelijke effecten. Tegelijkertijd is er nu waardering voor de brutalistische stroming met haar stoere, indrukwekkende gebouwen, veelal met een industriële functie. Performance ClubGeïnspireerd door de collectieve en adaptieve natuur van organismen zoals mieren en bijen, verkent de groep netwerken van communicatie en samenwerking. Welcome to the Introduction to Risograph workshop at Studio Vlinderboom! Join us at Broedplaats Baggerbeest for a fun and creative experience. Learn all about Risograph printing and how to create unique prints using this cool technique. No experience necessary, just come with an open mind and a desire to learn something new. See you there! We are excited to invite you to this introductory workshop in our cozy riso studio space. In this workshop, we will guide you through the process of making your own two-colour Risograph prints. You'll leave with 10 copies of your own design and have the opportunity to share and collaborate with other participants. The workshop begins with an introduction to the theory of Risography, followed by a demonstration of some examples. You'll then move on to drawing the first layer of your design using a variety of drawing tools including ink pens, pencils and crayons. Once the first layer is complete, we'll go to printing with Rita (our risoprinter) Next, you'll make the second layer, possibly using a light box for precise alignment. After the second layer has been printed, there will be opportunities to print layers from different participants on top of each other, encouraging collaborative artwork. The workshop concludes with a small exhibition where you can review and discuss your work with the group. Finally, you'll have the opportunity to exchange prints with others, so you can take home a variety of creations. Throughout the workshop you'll gain practical skills in basic Risography techniques, creating layered designs and using texture and opacity to achieve unique effects. The workshop will take place in the inspiring environment of Baggerbeest, a cultural hotspot in Zeeburg, providing the perfect backdrop for creativity.
