且聽箏吟 - 古箏與中國文化 Harmonies of Tradition - Guzheng and Chinese Culture Program Description This Guzheng concert will feature a selection of famous pieces from ancient to modern times. It will creatively combine Guzheng with various art forms, including Chinese calligraphy, Chinese dance, and poetry recitation. Selected pieces include Guzheng and piano concerto ‘Tune of Rainbow Cloud ’ (云裳訴), as well as Guzheng duet including ‘Blossoms on a Moonlit River in Spring’ (春江花月夜), ‘Butterfly Lovers’ (梁祝) etc. Through the concert, the audience will not only enjoy the beauty of the Guzheng pieces from different dynasties but also gain a deeper understanding of traditional arts and cultural history. Event Details Date: 31st March (Monday)Time: 7:30pm – 9:00pmVenue: Main Hall, Shaw Auditorium, HKUSTLanguage: English & ChineseFormat: PerformanceBiography Guzheng Performers: Lucy Qiao (喬燕楊) and Nancy Qiao (喬燕柳) are HKUST final-year students majoring in Quantitative Finance. They both started learning Guzheng at the age of five and achieved Grade 10 at age 11 from the Central Conservatory of Music. They have won multiple awards, including Gold Awards in ‘Beijing Traditional Instrument Competition’, Gold Awards in ‘Jingzhu Youth Art Festival’, and Bronze Awards in the ‘National Dunhuang Cup‘ etc. They successfully held a personal concert previously and performed several times at distinguished events including the Opening of Shaw Auditorium and the Inauguration of HKUST (GZ) etc. Upon graduation, they hope to spread the beauty of Guzheng and Chinese culture to a wider audience through this concert. Pianist: Diwen Ye (葉棣文) is a freshman at the HKUST School of Science. He began learning piano at the age of four and has achieved the Certificate of Arts Grade Examination of China Level 10, as well as the ABRSM Level 4 Diploma in Music Performance, passing with distinction. He has seven years of experience in orchestral performances and has also won multiple awards in several prestigious international competitions, including the first prize in the 9th Ivy International Grand Prize of Music and the second prize in the 7th KAWAI Asia Piano Competition, etc. Pianist: Alex Wang (王雨萌)is a final-year student at HKUST, majoring in Computer Science and Data Science & Technology. As an active member of the University Choir, she has served as an accompanist for the choir as well as mini-concerts organized by the University Philharmonic Orchestra. We will also have talented students Gloria Yu, Roslyn Yan and performers from MSSS Calligraphy Club to join the concert.
