Our immensely popular Dinner Detective shows are set in the present day. Unlike other murder mystery dinner shows, here you will find no cheesy costumes, no recited campy dialogue and no hokey song and dance. Our performers are dressed just like everyone else, leaving all of the guests to suspect who is a part of the show and who is not. In many instances, guests are seated with the performers and don't even realize it until they die...the performers, that is! Our Detectives proceed to interrogate everyone and find clues as the mystery unfolds. At the end of the night, prizes are awarded to the Top Sleuth who solves the crime. The Dinner Detective performs at The Courtyard by Marriott Chicago Downtown/Magnificent Mile, a full-service hotel in beautiful downtown Chicago, Illinois. We offer an amazing murder mystery show paired with a fantastic four-course plated dinner. You will receive tray-passed appetizers, salad, and dessert along with a choice of Roasted Chicken, Seared Salmon, OR Vegetarian Pasta. Coffee and tea are included, and there is a cash-only cash bar available as well. Our show does not have a theme or time period, and our performers are not in costume. You can choose whether or not to participate in the show! Our guests are encouraged but not required to perform or participate. However, since our actors are hidden in the audience, other audience members may interact with and interrogate you on their own. The show takes place all around you! Our actors are seated all around the room, possibly at your table. We also ensure each table gets to see every clue and witness every important scene, so all guests have an equal chance to solve the mystery! The Dinner Detective is a show geared toward adults. We have a strict age limit of 15 years old, due to mild adult content, loud noises, and swearing. What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? The venue is steps away from Michigan Avenue buses and the Grand redline station. Self parking garages are not owned by the venue and no validation is offered. What can I bring into the event? Due to hotel policy, no outside food or drink is allowed. The Chicago Poetry Center presents the Blue Hour generative writing workshop. The Blue Hour generative writing workshop is designed for writers and poetry fans of all levels. We discuss a poem together, then the facilitator guides the group through individual writing on an exploratory prompt that draws on themes from the poem. The facilitator and host for January 15th will be Marty McConnell. The workshop begins promptly at 6 p.m. (arrival is encouraged anytime after 5:45 p.m.) and ends at 7 p.m. Participants are invited to attend the Blue Hour open mic and reading at 7:30, following the generative workshop. You can sign up for one or both portions of the event (workshop and/or reading), but each registration must be completed separately.
