Join Doug Lemov , internationally renowned educator and author of Teach Like a Champion for this exclusive training session, which will focus on the science behind reading instruction and offer a "sneak preview" of Doug’s new book (with Colleen Driggs and Erica Woolway) on the topic. The book, The Teach Like a Champion Guide to the Science of Reading, focuses on seven key principles for ensuring that students become strong readers “post-phonics” that is, after they have acquired strong knowledge of letter-sound correspondence through systematic phonics instruction, ideally by year 2. What then? How should students learn to read for the rest of their school days up to and including university years? The science Doug will argue is clear, surprising and often-ignored. The workshop will include video from top classrooms and sample lesson items from the curriculum Doug and his team has developed for secondary students. Several of the topics—building students’ attentional skills; using background knowledge to foster comprehension; systematically building student attention; using a variety of intentional writing exercises to enhance student’s memory of text and mastery of syntax—will be relevant to teachers of all subjects and grade levels. Participants will receive a PDF version of several chapters of the forthcoming book as well. Limited spaces. Book now to secure your place! This exclusive training session is in high demand. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from one of the most influential voices in education today. Transform your teaching, raise pupil achievement, and empower your students for greater success. Created by Armstrong Dance, with original new music from Golden Globe-nominated composer Brian Byrne ( Heartbeat of Home ), Celtic Throne—Psalter of Ireland is guaranteed to be an experience unlike any other! Celtic Throne reflects the wide-ranging talents and interests of its creators and dancers. First and foremost, it’s an Irish dance show, with plenty of the fancy footwork and formidable stomps made world-famous by iconic shows like Riverdance, Lord of the Dance and Heartbeat of Home . “We adore these shows; they are an inspiration,” says director Brad Macdonald. “We wouldn’t be doing this if these amazing productions hadn’t blazed the trail for us. But Celtic Throne is totally unique—we are blazing our own trail!” Watching beautiful, happy children, some as young as 7 and 8, dancing and playing music will melt your heart. Sensational gymnastics and martial arts will have you on the edge of your seat and remind you of watching the Olympics. Our live musicians electrify even the most reserved audiences, transporting them to a cozy Irish pub. The dance and music are enhanced by stunning costumes, an elaborate set, sensational lighting and special effects, and dramatic video storytelling on a gigantic, state-of-the-art LED screen. “Imagine taking a classic Irish dance show and blending it with a West End musical and a Hollywood movie,” says Macdonald. “This is what we have done with Celtic Throne—Psalter of Ireland. You won’t find better value for your money—it’s three experiences in one!” Our dancers range in age from 5 to 25. The troupe is comprised mostly of students from the Carey Academy, some of whom have placed highly in Worlds, All Irelands, Great Britain and North American Nationals, and other top Irish dance competitions. The four-star hotel is a global media hub, promising safety and generator-powered internet, with hotel staff catering tirelessly to the needs of the world’s media, even as their own homes and families are under threat. Sara is determined to launch her career as a star correspondent. So, when her fixer Nasser refuses to set up the dangerous story she thinks will win her a front page, she turns instead to Fadi, the youngest member of a powerful militant family. Driven by the demons of her entitled yet damaging childhood, Sara will stop at nothing to prove herself in this war, even if it means bringing disaster upon those around her. Greenwood’s debut novel brings readers into the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and with audacity and humour depicts the media’s complicity in this ongoing tragedy.
