Explore the interactive displays, listen to recordings and view the different objects on display to gain an insight into the work, life, and cultural context of one of the twentieth century’s most significant writers. The exhibition is family friendly, free, and open Tuesday to Sunday.
The exhibition comprises a main room, a temporary exhibition area which houses changing displays, and a learning space which is open to the public when not in use for workshops.
There’s lots to explore on the interactive Timeline, such as the Children’s Trail which features some of the animals that appear in Dylan’s writing.
Follow the People Trail around the Timeline, too, and discover some of the key people in Dylan’s life, and the rich cultural context in which he lived and worked.
One section in the centre of the exhibition is dedicated to Dylan the writer, and another to Dylan the performer.
There are fun interactives, and touchscreens which tell the story of Dylan’s Notebooks, explore his famous poem ‘Do not go gentle into that good night’ and look at the circumstances surrounding his death.
Listen to Dylan himself, and those who knew him, via the built-in speakers in the chairs.

NAWR #65 - Ute Wassermann & Joke Lanz | Tangled Parrot Cafe/Record Shop 222 High Street, Abertawe
May 9, 2025 (UTC+0)
Swansea
Ute Wassermann & Joke Lanz (Berlin)
Joke Lanz (turntable) and Ute Wassermann (voice + objects) have been performing as a duo at international festivals since 2016. Their performance takes the audience on a rollercoaster of vocal, physical and electronic actions. A tour de force of technoid rhythms, cartoonish scraps of speech, twisted melodic fragments, stop-and-go grooves and loops. Their legendary concert at the Konfrontationen festival in Nickelsdorf (2019) was recorded by ORF and released on the Klanggalerie label in 2021. The CD Half Dead Half Alive was longlisted for the 2021 German Record Critics' Award.
Turntablist Joke Lanz is known in particular for his internationally acclaimed project “Sudden Infant” and appreciated for his work in the area between performance/body art and improvisation/noise. He was born in Switzerland and now works from Berlin all over the world. He uses autonomous sound cells to create a personal language that is detached from any function. He combines ritualistic reductionism with anarchistic playfulness, atmospheric landscapes with fragmentary sounds and physicality with unpredictability: scratches, sound walls, grooves, loops, noises and vocal modulations.
http://www.suddeninfant.com/
Vocal artist Ute Wassermann is one of the outstanding contemporary vocal artists. She has been touring the world as an improviser and performer of contemporary music for many years. In the last ten years she has increasingly realized audiovisual performances/installations and compositions for soloists and ensembles. She combines composition, improvisation and performance art to create her own form of Gesamtkunst, in which environment-related issues play a role. Her multidimensional sound oscillates between electronic, an/organic, animal and human qualities. She masks her voice with bird whistles, a DIY drum and objects, transforming her human form with a seemingly impossible vocal technique.

Friar Maurice Investigates - The Hanged Man | Station Court
Jun 28, 2025 (UTC+0)
Swansea
Friar Maurice InvestigatesCome with Father Maurice as he leads you through the streets of Swansea in 1307…. Wales is coming to terms with the conquest of Edward Longshanks only a quarter of a century ago, and many of the Welsh are not overly happy with Norman rule from London. Against this backdrop the Lord of Gower William de Breos has a lot on his hands – rebellious lords beneath him, an impatient king above and a headstrong wife. The best way to deal with rebels is to hang them as criminals, but when one of them gets up and walks away – 21 days after he has been declared dead – de Breos has even more problems. News of it even reaches the Pope in Avignon – he sends in his top investigator, Father Maurice of Pencoed, to discover the truth; and Father Maurice needs your help… The Hanged Man – Murder, Mystery or Miracle. A performed walk through Mediaeval Swansea… “It was brilliant – fascinating tour” ” Terrific event today. Friar Maurice was so entertaining and also informative.”

George Little Book Launch with Peter Wakelin | Mumbles Tabernacle
Nov 16, 2023 (UTC+0)ENDED
Swansea
Join Peter Wakelin and Prys Morgan as they host the much-anticipated launch of George Little: The Ugly, Lovely Landscape. Few artists have dedicated themselves as passionately to capturing and interpreting industrial environments as George Little. Born in 1927 in the east end of Swansea, he was intimately acquainted with the abandoned copper works, slag heaps, and bustling docks that characterized Dylan Thomas's enchantingly unattractive hometown. Peter Wakelin, an esteemed art historian and industrial archaeologist, provides insightful commentary alongside over 100 of Little's evocative photographs and paintings. Little's oeuvre documents the decline of heavy industry and industrial towns in South Wales throughout his lifetime, conveying the gritty, somber atmosphere of post-industrial landscapes before transforming them with vibrant colors and abstract elements. Little's own words encapsulate his nostalgia for disappearing subjects such as pithead wheels, slag heaps, heavy industry, and the Swansea docks he once knew. Prys Morgan aptly acknowledges that while many were aware of Swansea's "ugly lovely" nature, few, if any, were able to translate its inherent ugliness into memorably beautiful art. This meticulously researched study by Peter Wakelin seamlessly weaves together art history and industrial archaeology, offering a comprehensive overview of Little's profound artistic contributions. Writers, artists, urban explorers, and archaeologists are consistently drawn to the remnants of industry and the haunting remains of deindustrialization and urban decay. However, it is George Little who stands out for his unwavering commitment to documenting and interpreting these environments. Attend the George Little Book Launch with Peter Wakelin to immerse yourself in the captivating visual journey of this remarkable artist's life's work. The event will take place on November 16, 2023, at the Mumbles Tabernacle in Swansea. Tickets are priced at £6.13 and can be redeemed against book purchases.
