Keep Your Gin Up: British Gins | Metro Liquor Store Saskatoon

Jun 26, 2025 (UTC-6)
Saskatoon
Cultural Experiences
Gin's rise to fame is a tale as rich as the spirit itself—and, let’s be honest, gin’s always been a bit of a troublemaker. It all started in the 1500s when the English, embroiled in a few tiffs with Spain in the Netherlands, decided to give juniper-infused spirits a go. Little did they know, they were creating the drink that would become Britain’s liquid obsession. As gin spread across Britain like gossip at a village fête, British sailors took it with them on their voyages. The result? The invention of the Gimlet (born from an urgent need to fend off scurvy with lime) and the Gin and Tonic (created, let’s face it, as a way to choke down quinine without grimacing). From the no-nonsense Old Tom Cat, to the crisp sophistication of London Dry, and all the quirky, modern gin styles that are now enjoyed around the world—British gin has come a long way. So why not join the ranks of gin aficionados and raise a glass to this storied, slightly mischievous spirit? Keep calm and gin on! Information Source: Metro Liquor Stores Saskatoon | eventbrite

House of Apollo | Remai Modern

Jun 27, 2025 (UTC-6)
Saskatoon
Cultural Experiences
We’re going back to our roots! House of Apollo honours the legacy of chosen families, and the power of community in claiming space. In a time where our rights are being threatened globally and locally, House of Apollo is a reminder that we’ve always been here, queer, and resilient. Before there were gay bars in Saskatoon, queer people found safety and community in places like the Apollo Room—a discrete bar tucked inside the former Ritz Hotel. Named after the Apollo 11 mission, the bar became an unlikely space for the queer community to connect. On June 27th we want to reconnect with you and all of our pals. You don’t want to miss this one, it’s gonna be out of this world. Proceeds for this event will benefit Saskatoon Sexual Health, an organization that provides safe and inclusive sexual health services to Saskatoon and the surrounding area. Tickets: $15 early bird until Friday June 6th, $30 regular, $35 @ door (limited quantity) plus applicable fees + taxes. 19+ event. If cost is a barrier please dm us. Gal Pals makes space for everyone, so we’ve got you covered. This is a queer event for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. If you aren’t a member of the community please be aware of how you’re taking up space. Racism, transphobia, homophobia, ableism, fatphobia, harassment, or oppression of any kind will not be tolerated. DJ, drag, and other announcements @galpalsyxe on insta Gal Pals is all about creating a safe, inclusive, and unapologetically queer space where the 2SLGBTQ+ fam can come together, celebrate our identities, and build community. Since 2020, we've thrown three epic events that mix music, drag, art, and dancing to bring pure joy to those in the queer community. Information Source: your best gal pals. | eventbrite

The Most Beautiful Wine in the Room: The Wines of New Zealand | Metro Liquor Store Saskatoon

Jul 24, 2025 (UTC-6)
Saskatoon
Cultural Experiences
New Zealand as a country is a bit more on the medium-size both in land area and in human population. However, it punches far above its weight in a few different things, including sheep population, kiwifruit exports, and wine production. As a store that focusses on selling wines rather than kiwifruit, mutton, or wool, we’re mostly interested in the wines bit. Sauvignon Blanc, particularly from the Marlborough region on the northeast of the South Island, is among the best-known wines from New Zealand. However, there’s a lot more to New Zealand than just one grape variety and region! It’s closer to about 40 grape varieties and 10 regions. Come to Metro Liquor tonight and experience some of the wines that New Zealand has to offer! Information Source: Metro Liquor Stores Saskatoon | eventbrite
