The Dust Rhinos | Blue Note Park

Aug 19, 2025 (UTC-5)
Winnipeg
Concerts
From basement pubs to festival stages the Dust Rhinos have been bringing their particular brand of punk flavoured Irish trad to venues large, small, and otherwise since 1992. Blossoming from a trio of buskers to a 5-piece Celtic rock juggernaut, the Rhinos have tread the boards with acts as varied as The Dropkick Murphys, Gaelic Storm, Alabama, Leahy, the Barra MacNeils, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Whether a house concert, pub night, or festival (Dauphin Countryfest, Festival du Voyageur, Winnipeg Folk Festival, the Grey Cup Festival and counting!) the Rhinos’ controlled chaos will get people out of their seats, on the dance floor, and clamouring for One! More! Song! With influences that include the Pogues, the Oysterband, Spirit of the West, the Clash, and Peter Gabriel, it’s no wonder the Rhinos have a powerful, yet multi-faceted and layered sound and playing style. An aggressive, but subtle sonic assault. Ever seen a ceilidh break out in a mosh pit? Or vice versa? Expect it at a Rhinos show. As their loyal and ever-growing fan base can attest, when the Dust Rhinos are on stage, the only thing that won’t take you by surprise is how much fun you’re having. The Dust Rhinos are:Blair McEvoy - Vocals, Guitar, BodhranDan Cannon - Bass, Vocals, AccordionIvanka Watkin - FiddleDarren Wittmann - Drums, Percussion, VocalsRyan Spracklin - Mandolin, Fiddle, Vocals Information Source: Times Change(d) High & Lonesome Club | eventbrite

VINEYARD TOUR & WINE TASTING AT MANITOBA'S ONLY WINE VINEYARD | Shrugging Doctor Beverage Company

Sep 7, 2025 (UTC-5)
Winnipeg
Cultural Experiences
We are so excited to share our third annual Vineyard Tour! Shrugging Doctor Beverage Company, a Winery founded in 2017 and based in Winnipeg, has been growing grapes in Southern Manitoba's Pembina Valley for almost 9 years. As far as we know this is the very first commercial vineyard, ever, in Manitoba. Because it is a working farm, we only have the opportunity to have a tour once a year! Ticket holders will meet us at our Winery in Sunny St. James in Winnipeg, where we have rented a comfortable greyhound style bus. We will travel down to the Vineyard (around 1.5 hour trip) together. When we reach the vineyard you will be shown around the vines of our 10+ grape varietals, and master winemaker Zach Isaacs will give his story on the journey of horticulture and winemaking in Manitoba's harsh winters. (You might even be able to taste some of the grapes!) Throughout the tour, small samples of different wines will be provided, all made from Manitoba grown ingredients. We will end the tour with a little barbecue (vegetarian options available) while we share stories and answer questions, enjoying the wondrous nature of Manitoba's Pembina Valley. When we return by bus back to the Winery in Winnipeg, ticket holders will be able to purchase sealed bottles of wine from our tasting room, as well as some first access to some seasonal products not yet released to the public. We will be hosting this tour the week before grape harvest to ensure that the grapes are the biggest, best and tastiest they could possibly be. Event is rain or shine. Dress for the heat / the rain / whatever happens! We hope you come join us! Information Source: Shrugging Doctor Beverage Company | eventbrite

Eco-Art Therapy: Supporting the Grief Journey “What can happen when we take the creative arts therapies and the people whom we work with out of doors in order to provide safe, creative therapeutic healing experiences?” (Heginworth, I., & Nash, G. (Eds.). (2020) In this workshop we will explore this question and delve into the realm of Eco-Art Therapy as connected to grief work. We will explore theory to support the journey and root us in ‘why we are doing what we are doing when we are doing it’. We will experience Eco-Art Therapy directives as well as spontaneous art making. Being in nature, creating with nature in our homes, thinking creatively around natural materials and expanding our perspectives around what can be an art material. We will experiment with the power of creating impermanent art in nature and the metaphors that connect this process to grief work . This workshop aims to create a foundation of knowledge that enables participants to continue to learn and develop skills related to eco-art therapy and grief. This workshop will be held outdoors at Assiniboine Park as long as the weather cooperates. If the weather is poor we will plan to meet online on zoom. Learning Objectives: Learning new eco-art therapy directives as well as spontaneous art making Expanding knowledge around ‘what are eco-art therapy materials’ and how accessible this way of working is Connecting grief work to the natural world and the rich metaphors and symbolism that lives there I encourage all participants to bring a journal / notebook, any art supplies you have a connection to, along with a few items collected from nature Meet Your Facilitator - Jess Winnicki BA, BSW, RSW, DKATI : As a trauma-informed Registered Art Therapist / Registered Social Worker, Jess bears witness to the transformation in others and in herself as she bends over her potter’s wheel and moulds the clay into vessels of containment. Healing manifests in that containment - and art is the leavening agent that feeds the growth of the individuals she works with as they traverse the circuitous journey that is life. With both feet firmly planted in a base of spirituality and mindfulness, she works in service to social justice, practicing from a place of curiosity, non-judgment, empathy and respect. I graduated from the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute (KATI) in Nelson, BC in 2018 and completed the Art of Art Therapy Supervision Levels 1 & 2 in 2023. I am currently seeing clients in my private practice in Winnipeg, MB and working towards a doctorate at University of Alberta, St. Stephens College. Payment Information and Other Learning Opportunities: This training is part of an educational series hosted by Shift Wpg, with four more sessions planned throughout 2025 with a total of five sessions available to choose from, covering experiences of both death and non-death losses. For information on our other sessions, simply scroll to the bottom of this page where you will see what else we are hosting this year. Each session is $150, but we’re offering a discount to make it more accessible for you to learn more. If you register for two sessions, you’ll save 10%, and if you attend three or more, you’ll save 15%. On each event page you will notice the option to purchse a ticket for the one training at regular price or two, three, four or five of the trainings to receive the discount. Have a notebook and pen/pencil available as well. If the session is moved to Zoom you’ll get a private link beforehand to join. Cultural Experiences
Lithogen Inc. presents TEM and ERT Geophysical Primer, a course developed by Lithogen Inc. with material support from GuildelineGeo. This two day short course will teach students the fundamentals of two geophysical methods: Time Domain Electromagnetics (TDEM or TEM), and Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT or sometimes ERI). These methods are used in subsuraface imaging for geotechnical, groundwater, environmental, permafrost, or other subsurface mapping projects where the goal is to reduce the total number of boreholes required. The course will cover a half day of theory for each instrument, then provide hands-on with the instruments in the afternoon. The course is designed for students who are technically competent in fields such as: geosciences, soil sciences, civil engineering, or environemental sceinces. A certificate will be provided after the course so that students can apply this towards continuing professional development hours. The course agenda: Day 1 (9am-4pm, break for lunch, coffee provided) Basic TEM theory TEM Instrumentation Survey design and parameters Virtual Hands-on Lunch break Field demo using WalkTEM2 Basic data processing using SPIA (commerical) Case studies and discussion Day 2(9am-4pm, break for lunch, coffee provided) Basic ERT theory ERT Instrumentation Survey design and parameters Virtual Hands-on Lunch break Field demo using TerrameterLS2 Basic data processing using RES2DInv (commercial) Case studies and discussion SPIA and RES2DInv are licensed software available from Seequent. For students who are adept at using python and open source products, reasonable alternatives exist, such as: https://empymod.emsig.xyz/en/stable/gallery/tdomain/tem_walktem.html#sphx-glr-gallery-tdomain-tem-walktem-py - however they are too complex to cover in such a short period. ResIPy is a suitable free alternative to RES2DInv. Depending on the total number of attendees, this course may be taught in Lithogen's warehouse at 576 Roseberry St., Winnipeg, or in an adjacent building. If you are a geophysics student (or similar) and wish to take this course, please contact us via email for sponsorship options. We welcome attendees from GeoManitoba2025!
