Starting with the Saracen jousting, a popular event celebrated in the city of Arezzo, the exhibition aims to document war games using prints and drawings from various periods in the Uffizi Gallery, especially the numerous examples of helmets, weapons and armour from the famous collection of the Stibbert Museum. These knightly tournaments became popular in the Middle Ages and continued into the Renaissance, including the Crossbow Palio, which required contestants to have skills in precision, and the ancient Game of the Bridge, a contest of strength to conquer the Ponte Vecchio on foot. Visitors will see the most iconic piece in the exhibition, a 16th-century Buratto or Saracen quintain on loan from the Museo Nazionale del Bargello. Probably a celebration to mark the marriage of Francesco I and Bianca Cappero in 1579, the changes over the centuries have transformed it from a Saracen nobleman to the European warrior we see today. The exhibition emblem is another prestigious work of art, Stefano Della Bella’s Knight in Armour, made for the procession and loaned by the Uffizi Gallery. The sumptuous, ornate costumes and robes evoke the sheer splendor of participating in these spectacular events designed to celebrate the great and the good. In another painting loaned from the CR Florence Foundation, Stefano Della Bella depicts a night procession in the Boboli Gardens in 1637. Arms and armour are loaned by Florence’s Museo Stibbert, which has one of the richest collections of material on the ancient game of bridge in Pisa. Stibbert also loaned a fine set of 17th-century crossbows richly inlaid with hunting scenes, made by a workshop in southern Germany. And the collection of the Ivan Bruschi Foundation lends an interesting letter of challenge from “the unconquered, most glorious and ever-victorious King of the Indies, Brato”, issued to announce the version of the Saracen tournament that was held on August 26, 1674 in honor of Cardinal Corsini, Bishop of Arezzo.

From 18 June at the Museum of Costume and Fashion of Pitti Palace the exhibition promoted by the Ministry of Culture, organized and arranged by "Archivio Luce Cinecittà" in collaboration with the Uffizi Galleries.

The Festa delle Rificolone is a traditional festival in Florence, Italy, usually held on the evening of September 7th each year. The festival dates back to the Renaissance and is a celebration of the birth of the Virgin Mary and a tribute to the farmers who come to the city on September 8th to sell their agricultural products and handicrafts. The main feature of the Lantern Festival is the lantern parade. Children will take to the streets holding paper lanterns of various shapes and bright colors, which are usually lit by candles or modern LED lights. Traditionally, these lanterns are made into various patterns, and sometimes children's own lanterns are also involved in the parade. This festival also has an interesting custom: children will try to "attack" other people's lanterns with blowpipes or other means to extinguish them, which is a way of celebration and game. Architectural works of ancient civilizations, such as Stonehenge, Mayan temples and the pyramids of Giza, have long demonstrated the attention and devotion of our ancestors to sunlight, and the latter – representing the most visible and tangible manifestation of the luminous phenomenon on our planet – has always been a focus for artists.

Florence celebrates the artistic genius of Giovan Battista Foggini (1652-1725) with a major monographic exhibition, promoted by the Metropolitan City of Florence and organized by the MUS.E Foundation, which will be held at Palazzo Medici Riccardi from 10 April to 9 September 2025. The exhibition, curated by Riccardo Spinelli, is organized on the occasion of the third centenary of the artist's death and intends to restore to the public the extraordinary figure of the man who, with his 'interdisciplinary' work, ended up shaping the artistic language of late-Medici Florence.

Alongside the main exhibition dedicated to the great sculptor Giovan Battista Foggini, there is also the photographic exhibition “Foggini’s Florence. Views of Paolo Bacherini” – curated by Valentina Zucchi, based on an idea by Riccardo Spinelli, set up in the Fabiani Rooms of Palazzo Medici Riccardi – which offers a suggestive reading of the artist’s activity in the architectural fabric of the city.

GALLERIA CONTINUA presents in its San Gimignano space the exhibition Present Tense by Arcangelo Sassolino. The exhibition brings together a series of new, never-before-seen works, exploring the theme of matter in constant transformation in an attempt to capture a present that is constantly slipping away. Industrial oil, a central element of the works displayed, becomes liquid sculpture and a metaphor for the constant instability of time and space: a dense, opaque fluid that moves, expands, and contracts, engaging in a continuous dialogue between control and unpredictability.

Galleria Continua is pleased to welcome the solo exhibition of Indian female artist Shilpa Gupta again at its headquarters in San Gimignano. Gupta is one of the most influential international artists of the post-70s generation. This exhibition presents a series of rich and fascinating works, each of which is rooted in the artist's continuous criticism and deep reflection on themes such as "mobility", "control" and "resilience". The exhibition also includes a new large-scale installation work "Truth" (2022-2025), which was specially created for the theater space of Galleria Continua. It is a large-scale installation that can be walked through, inviting the audience to re-examine their perception of space and time, experience dynamic perspectives, and reconsider the relationship between power and narrative.

The 'Age of Enlightenment' (and of reforms) is narrated through some 150 works set up in the ground floor rooms of the Gallery, with masterpieces by Goya, Tiepolo, Canaletto, Vigée Le Brun, Liotard, and Mengs: many never seen before, others hidden for over a decade due to the work to extend the exhibition route.

On May 7, 1925, the Istituto di Storia delle Scienze was inaugurated as a department of the University of Florence. The first of its kind in Italy, the Institute combined the objective of promoting the history of science with a new sensibility toward the collection and valorization of the material heritage of Italian science. Granted official status as an autonomous entity in 1927, opened to the public in 1930 in its current home in Palazzo Castellani, the Institute acquired a new name in 2010: Museo Galileo. Conceived to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of this Florentine institution, the exhibition presents rare and precious editions of volumes drawn mostly from the Fondo Mediceo-Lorenese, including scientific texts acquired over the centuries by the two Tuscan dynasties. The display offers visitors a unique opportunity to admire masterworks usually conserved out of view in the Museum’s library. Providing a framework for the display of books, a photographic exhibition documents the most important moments in the life of the Institute over these hundred years, accompanied by films exploring some of the research topics of particular interest to the Institute from its foundation to today. The story that emerges illustrates how Florence—with its traditions, history, and patrimony of texts and scientific instruments—has proven the ideal birthplace for this cultural institution, which embodies a model practically unprecedented in the panorama of Italian museums.

Join CPC in tidepooling, enjoy a complimentary snack, and then join us for the Trail Party! This is an excellent and fun way to give back to the Cape Perpetua Area. REGISTER FOR TIDEPOOL EVENT HERE!! (clickable link) Project Information: We will be doing tread maintenance (improving the trail surface) using shovels and other digging tools. We will work at a gentle pace, enjoy the forest landscape, and take some time for lunch. Hiking information: We will meet at the Neptune State Park Scenic Viewpoint north parking lot before we cross the highway to get on the trail. We will hike to our worksite, about 3/4 to 1 mile in. There are some ups and downs along this trail, about 50 - 100 feet of elevation gain. There is no restroom at the trailhead. Closest ones are a 1/4 mile north at the Cape Pereptua Visitor Center or 1/4 mile south at the Neptune South parking lot. You should plan to participate in this trail party for its entirety. For safety reasons, please do not arrive late or expect to be able to leave early. Event details: Detailed event information, including directions to the meeting location, will be provided to registrants via email 48 hours prior to the event. If you're volunteering for the first time, read this blog by a volunteer to know what to expect at your first trail party. Il BIKEBOOBS TRAIL vuole darti la possibilità di provare questa modalità di viaggio in bici attraverso dei percorsi gravel, mtb, ebike pensati per avvicinare divertendo chi non ha mai provato e ingaggiare chi conosce già il mondo dei trail. Nel 2025 ai due percorsi tradizionali (corto e lungo) si aggiunge un terzo percorso che abbiamo chiamato All-in... una traccia in più, anzi “più”: più breve, più inclusiva, adatta a più tipologie di bici. Sarà l’occasione non solo di vedere sul grande schermo le cinque opere finaliste ma anche di organizzare una tavola rotonda che vedrà protagonisti da un lato i filmmaker e dall’altro i partecipanti al percorso laboratoriale Semi Film Club. Dal 1956, i prestigiosi David di Donatello caldeggiano il meglio del cinema italiano. Fondati come simbolo della rinascita del settore durante il dopoguerra, questi premi rendono omaggio a una vasta gamma di generi, riunendo leggende ed esordienti della settima arte. Per festeggiarne la 70a edizione, proponiamo la cinquina dei candidati al premio come miglior cortometraggio sulla nostra piattaforma, oltre a una serie di episodi del MUBI Podcast con ospiti speciali. Da parabole distopiche a drammi socio-realisti, i film candidati sono lo sforzo degli astri nascenti di domani. L’appassionato La confessione (2024) di Nicola Sorcinelli, che segue due giovani amanti alle prese con un’apocalissi imminente, sconvolge le convenzioni dei film in costume con un tocco di fantascienza. Ritroviamo una simile atmosfera apocalittica in The Eggregores’ Theory (2024) di Andrea Gatopoulos, un’inquietante visione di un prossimo futuro in cui l’arte e il linguaggio sono illegali. Con Domenica sera (2024), Matteo Tortone rivolge invece lo sguardo alla quotidianità e a questioni dell’attualità, in particolare alle sfumature della mascolinità tossica. Un interesse analogo nei confronti dei tumulti della giovinezza emerge anche in Majonezë (2024) di Giulia Grandinetti, corto ambientato in Albania in cui un’adolescente feroce combatte contro la tirannia patriarcale per il diritto di amare e vivere libera. L’autonomia femminile è il tema centrale anche de La ragazza di Praga (2024) di Andree Lucini, l’unico documentario in concorso. Se inizialmente il film sembra il ritratto ordinario di una nonna ottantenne, pian piano comincia a ricostruire meticolosamente la sua vita tumultuosa di un’esiliata ceca in Italia, esperienza segnata dal pregiudizio xenofobico e dalla violenza domestica.
