Arts Design
In 1977, nine years after its initial release, Ray and Charles Eames issued an amended version of their experimental film Powers of Ten, incorporating two additional scales, and thereby effecting “a hundredfold increase—to each end of the journey into the universe, and to the return trip to the microstructure of the carbon atom in the human body.” Drawing on up-to-the-moment scientific developments at scales both extra-large and extra-small, seizing upon the power of then-novel media and representational techniques to appeal to very different audiences, and venturing well beyond the ostensible borders of the design disciplines, the Eames’ visual and narrative encapsulation of a complex and interconnected universe displays precisely how scale, or more precisely how scaling, can shape imaginaries and practices across the arts, humanities, and sciences, as well as in popular culture. As technical innovations augment the scope of our powers both to perceive and to intervene, we are confronted with a relentless ordering and reordering of knowledge. This epistemological dilemma compels us to articulate new theoretical frameworks, to relentlessly renegotiate disciplinary boundaries, and to analyze, address, and problem-solve between—and often simultaneously at—an ever-proliferating range of scales. THE OLD MAN AND THE OLD MOON BOOK, MUSIC AND LYRICS BY PIGPEN THEATRE CO The Old Man and The Old Moon tells the story of The Old Man, who has kept his post as the sole caretaker of the moon for as long as he (or his wife, the Old Woman) can remember. When she is drawn away by a mysterious melody that sparks memories of their shared past, the Old Man must decide between duty (and routine) and love (and adventure). Luckily for audiences everywhere, he chooses the latter, and what follows is an imaginative sea-faring epic, encompassing apocalyptic storms, civil wars, leviathans of the deep, and cantankerous ghosts, as well as the fiercest obstacle of all: change. A show full of live music, puppetry and theatrical effects. The Old Man and The Old Moon is presented by special arrangement with Broadway Licensing, LLC. (www.broadwaylicensing.com) Please note this performance will contain flashing lights. This performance does not take place at the Mumford Theatre but at the Covent Garden Drama Studio, just a few minutes walk away! Arts Dance
About the workshop: In this workshop, dancers will be introduced to asanas from the primary & intermediate ashtanga series that are focused on core strengthening, and improving hip and hamstring flexibility. Select asanas will be broken down, so dancers can understand the anatomy behind those postures, and how those asanas can contribute towards their dance goals. Dancers will also be offered modifications to make each asana accessible. The class will end with a small pranayama (yogic breathing) practice. Ashtanga Inspired Yoga for Indian Classical Dancers is part of the Reflection, Healing & Movement series. These programs take place in Studio 7, a fully accessible ground floor level studio. About Anugraha Raman: Anu is an Indian classical dancer and ashtanga yoga practitioner. She was first exposed to ashtanga yoga in San Diego, where she cultivated her regular practice at the Ashtanga Yoga Center directed by Tim Miller. More recently, she delved deeper into her own practice in a holistic training program led by Kino MacGregor. Anu has been learning South Indian Classical Dance (Bharatanatyam) for nearly 30 years and North Indian Classical Dance (Kathak) for 4. Currently, she is continuing her Bharatanatyam training with Meena Subramanyam and learns Kathak from Neha Patel. Over the years she has been a part of many group productions and performances , performing at the Indian Fine Arts Academy of San Diego, Greater Boston Area and in virtual festivals. She curated Ananda: What brings you Joy, co-produced Samsara Nritya: Embracing Dualities through Indian Classical Dance., and is a part of community choreographic initiatives (NACHMO boston, aMaSSiT dance lab). She believes that Indian Classical Dance can be accessible and relatable to a diverse audience. To this end, she has taken part in the Indian Raga fellowship program and led collaborations with dancers globally to create virtual content that is accessible to culturally diverse audiences. She is also the co-director of Boston Adavu--a community started in 2019 that fosters self-growth by welcoming Bharatanatyam dancers of all levels to come together and practice their basics and collaborate on artistic endeavors. Her yoga journey has been mentally transformative for her and has physically helped her improve as a dancer. She hopes that through yoga she can empower others to understand their bodies better and preempt injuries, overcome mental barriers , and enjoy the little things in life! Our low coach to player ratios allow for greater development of both new and pre-existing skills. However, learning isn't enough; we see so many keepers with a strong technical base but who are unable to apply these skills into the game under pressure. At Class Hockey we will coach you to do just this: take what you’ve got and show you how to use it more effectively in our fun and open atmosphere where we encourage experimentation and mistakes. There is no greater way to grow as a player and you are going to grow, believe me! Please note: our much enjoyed tournament will be played on the last afternoon. School years: 8-13 Time: 9.30am - 3.30pm Date: Monday 14th & Tuesday 15th April 2025 Cost: Full day(s): £64 (1d), £125 (2d) Venue: Cambridge University Sports Ground, Wilberforce Road, CB3 0EQ Please note: We have completed a thorough risk assessment to allow us to try to minimise elements of risk as best as we can (in accordance with England Hockey guidance). Please ensure your child's packed lunch/snacks are NUT FREE. What to bring? Your goalkeeping kit, hockey stick, snack/lunch and plenty to drink. Please check the weather and bring spare clothes/waterproofs. What's the refund policy? In all cases we will do our best to fill your place and refund in full, minus administrative charges. However, if this is not possible please see below: 1-2 days - no refund 3-7 days - 25% refund 7 days or more - full refund, minus administrative charges If CH cancel an event you will receive a full refund.
