You’ll get to know the value of playing at the height of your intelligence, and understand the importance of joy in live improv. You’ll also have a great, great time. From Teresa Teng to Jay Chou, Li Ronghao to Waa Wei, Mandopop is thrilling music lovers around the world. On June 05 at Hero's Welcome, local fusion upstarts Chen Baker will be covering Mandopop songs from a wide range of artists and time periods, often with their own unique (spelled J-A-Z-Z) twist. Fans of the genre can expect some mega hits, as well as lesser-known songs from top artists. Pioneered in the late 90s/early 2000s by artists such as David Tao, Khalil Fong (RIP), and Jay Chou, R&B has always been an integral part of Chinese language (CN, TW, HK) pop music. Blending complex chord changes and neo-soul grooves with elements of traditional Chinese music, the resulting sound is something that feels familiar yet fresh, no matter what your background is.Joined by long time collaborators Mia Wang and Leo Li (winner of Voice of China Canada 2023) on vocals, Jeffery and his Chen Baker band bring this music live in the evening of June 5th.
