Feel Good Art Club embraces a mindful art session to help you find stillness and calm and enjoy an evening developing your skills. Don’t worry if you’ve not picked up a pencil since school – it’s a relaxed and friendly group where all are welcome, from the more experienced artists to the absolute beginners. Each session begins with a short mindful exercise led by your tutor, followed by a creative session linked to a new theme each week. You’ll take inspiration from different still life objects, artists’ work and reference images. Materials and objects related to that weeks’ theme are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own too. Each week is a stand-alone class but join regularly and really see your skills improve. Suitable for complete beginners, returning skaters or those with limited experience. Absolutely no previous roller skate experience is needed to attend this class. We warmly welcome those who are starting their roller skate journey. Numbers are limited to ensure we can keep an optimum student to Skate Coach ratio. Skate hire (including protective pads) available - please ensure you purchase Entry + Skate hire ticket for each person requiring skates. Please note: The coaching in this class will end up to 10 minutes before the session end to allow for the removal of skates and protection within the session time. What will we learn? We will have a separate group and instructor to look after our newest roller skaters who have absolutely no prior experience. Otherwise our instructor team will assess your current skate level and support you with developing your skills. Each week we will cover different skills designed to build your confidence in all areas, including: getting startedfalling safelystartingstoppinghow to skate backwardsand a whole lot more!Remember: Roller skate skills can take months to develop, depending on the skill you want to learn. We are not able to include all skills every week - skaters attend these sessions until they feel confident to progress to our skills workshops. In this pottery class you'll be guided through the process of forming clay to hand build a sculpture inspired by a walk-round of the John Hoyland These Mad Hybrids and Strange Presence exhibitions. Once getting to grips with the clay, the shape and form is up to you to design. The session will start with some time spent in the exhibitions taking notes, sketches or photos to find your sources of inspiration, followed by exploring various hand building techniques that will allow you to create your own 'mad hybrid' sculpture. There will be a break for lunch (lunch is not provided), and the afternoon will be your time to finalise the design and to decorate your sculpture using bright coloured slips. The final pieces will be finished in a transparent gloss glaze and fired in a kiln off-site, ready to collect from the Millennium Gallery approximately three weeks later. Andrew Walker is an experienced ceramic artist, creating hand built contemporary pottery. His work consists of hand built ceramic stoneware vessels, predominately starting out as rolled slabs of specialist clay. Join us for our open mic evening of gardening, spring and creature stories. If you would like to tell a story we would love to hear it. It does not need to be linked to the theme of the evening. The story should be rehearsed and up to ten minutes long. Book a slot to tell when you arrive. If you prefer just to listen you are also very welcome because our tellers love to have an audience.
