C Turtle C Turtle are one of those bands whose sound people can’t seem to pin down. Mercurial and moody, theirs is a protean kind of oozing fuzzy-jumper rock that’s as much about slickly spun lyrical poetry and unfiltered emotion as it is fractal riffs and howling feedback whines yapping at their heels. The London band's latest album, Expensive Thrills, unfurls a handsome union of existential reflection and observation that humanity is seemingly going backwards. From head to toe the record bursts with influences spanning the epochs of grunge, alternative rock and indie – from Pixies, Pavement and some of the bands that came through the iconic New Zealand label Flying Nun Records in the 80s/90s like 3Ds and The Clean – yet with an effortless modern zeal that has C Turtle standing head and shoulders with other contemporary trailblazers in bar italia and Lime Garden. SLAG SLAG are making Math Rock sexy. SLAG formed in Brighton, late 2023. SLAGs guitar riffs are actually kind of crazy when you think about it. SLAG wear some really cool outfits on stage sometimes. SLAGs singer could be a man if you closed your eyes and listened closely, but she isn’t. SLAG released the song Ripped in September and everyone seems to really like it. SLAG released a workout video on YouTube. SLAGs live shows are awesome - lots of people have said so. SLAG have plans. Oral Habit The ear rattling psychic dream, of choked up acid punks. After my last 2 events sold out, it's only right that we go bigger & better for this special occasion! It's been a crazy year; from featuring in The Sunday Times Culture Magazine, a sold out mini tour and countless of iconic shows over SE England; it's only right I bring my fusion of Grungy Psych Soul back to Brighton, where it all started. Headlined by myself, I've cherry picked a lineup of some of the finest musicians I've come across so far: Spill - Alternative Rock band from Brighton, blending the raw intensity of grunge with timeless elements of classic and psychedelic rock. Spill has quickly made a name for themselves in Brighton & beyond during their first UK tour that saw them play 10 dates across the country from headline shows in Leeds to supporting Thistle in Exeter. Ross Stewart - Scottish-born singer/songwriter and musician based in Norwich, UK. His sound comes as a fusion of deep-rooted blues influence, modern americana, folk and rock, presented with a contemporary edge and feel-good flair. Sunlifter - Grunge/alt rock trio based in Brighton, taking inspiration from bands such as Soundgarden, Basement and Smashing Pumpkins. Their sound ranges from aggressive, hardcore style riffs to melodic and intricate chord progressions. Come down, make some friends and enjoy a night of beautiful music. I can't wait to see you all :) Information Source: Kanukai | eventbrite

Arts Literary Arts
Where better to write than a bookshop with a cafe? When better than at 5am? Join other local writers from 5am on the first Wednesday of every month to write as the sun comes up. Coffee, tea and pastries available to kickstart your writing morning. We'll open the shop at 5am and you're welcome to join us then, or at anytime after that - and leave whenever you need to. The shop opens to the general public at 9.30am but if you're in full flow, you're free to stay as long as you like. Tickets are limited to 20 as we only have so many chairs and table space. While the majority of writers sit upstairs in the cafe, we also have chairs and tables on the ground floor and in the cosy basement, so feel free to spread yourself about throughout the bookshop - wherever you feel comfortable. Tickets cost £10 (including VAT) and in addition to including your first coffee or pot of tea, you will also get a 30% discount on any other drinks or snacks. The local bakery usually delivers our pastries at about 7.30am to give you that extra energy boost. This is a silent write session - there's no workshopping, just the motivation of being around other writers as the sun comes up. We can promise you a magical atmosphere. Why do we do this? Author and bookshop owner Cathy Hayward has regularly risen at 5am to write and she wondered if other local writers did the same. We started the 5am Writing Club in the bookshop as a trial on the Summer Solstice 2023. They've proved popular so they're now a monthly fixture and we'll keep running them as long as people keep turning up. If you have any questions, or feedback, email cathy@kemptownbookshop.co.uk Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable just because of the admin involved and Eventbrite's high fees - sorry. Centred on enjoyment, with medium length dance sequences, and plenty of time for learning and embodying the movement. Previous dance experience is not required for you to attend this class. All my classes are danced in my own contemporary style, which has emerged from my years of training in Ballet, Flying Low, Release, Cunningham, Graham, Tap, Jazz and others… Each class contains warm up, teaching and dancing of phrases, cool down, finished with a relaxation.
