Summer Sundays: The Dukes of Swing Live at The Oval Step back in time and soak up the timeless sounds of jazz and swing with The Dukes of Swing at The Oval Bandstand. As part of our Summer Sunday Concerts, this sensational five-piece band will transport you to the golden era of music, performing classics from the 40s, 50s, and 60s made famous by legends like Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, and Tony Bennett. Led by the charismatic and smooth-sounding Benjamin Lock, a seasoned jazz vocalist with performances at top venues across the UK, The Dukes of Swing are guaranteed to deliver an unforgettable afternoon of music.Our popular summer season of concerts is back, and this year we are bringing even more performances across a wider variety of genres to The Oval Bandstand & Lawns. Looking for a fun, engaging way to get active and meet new people? Pickleball is suitable for all ages and skill levels. Whether you're a seasoned player or a complete beginner, our friendly sessions are designed to improve your skills, knowledge and fitness. The sessions are perfect for those people wishing to get more active and try something new. Coach Dave Wood will be on hand each week to guide you through the basic rules and understanding of the game. With four courts available players can play with people of similar ability. It is recommended to wear trainers and sport/leisure clothing and to bring a water bottle. Equipment is provided. The cost is £10.50 per weekly session. Each session runs for 2 hours from 7pm to 9pm. The sessions will be run by Dave Wood. Dave is a local pickleball player and qualified coach. Dave lives in Margate and has been playing pickleball for 9 years. He loves to play in tournaments and has even played in the US Pickleball Open in Florida. Dave is currently the national champion in men's and mixed doubles 60+ category. Both Rocky and Diesel have a truly pioneering spirit that fuelled early nineties underground anthems such as the percussive, US-influenced ‘MuzikExpress’, the brooding moodiness of ’Kill 100’ (which was used by Raff Simmons for his first ever fashion show for the house of Givenchy) and a rare sense of personality and charm that gave rise to enduring classics like the 2003 Ivor Novello Award wining single ‘Lazy’ and ‘Give It’ with vocalists as unlikely yet inspired as Talking Heads’ David Byrne and Lambchop’s Kurt Wagner. In the years since, the pair have continued to turn out powerful club cuts such as ‘ToneheadChemistry’ and ‘Siren Track’ and have always been subtly evolving in the process. It means they are as adept at heads-down grooves as they are spacious, action-packed breakdowns, and this has helped keep them in favour with modern tastemakers like Seth Troxler, Eats Everything and Subb-an. In their time this accomplished pair has released four full length albums, all of which combine powerful vocals with a wide school of influences. Many singles ensued and each one married classic ideals with contemporary grooves in ways only producers and music collectors of X Press 2’s standing could manage. The pair have recently delivered several big remixes for Gabriels, David Holmes, JIM and David Kitt. Earlier this year, they signed to Acid Jazz. Licensing the early Junior Recordings and delivering an album of brand newmaterial, Thee, out now. Rocky and Diesel are still fanatical about the music they play and produce, and it is that which sets them apart. Rather than becoming a heritage act just playing the old classics, they still very much have their finger on the pulse and continue to lead from the front. An evening of raising funds for our new community led self-defence classes for Trans and Queer folk in Thanet! Entry is £5 (+fees) Donations are encouraged ;) Doors will open at 7 p.m., and acts will start around 7:45 p.m. There will be a short break halfway through the night. The evening should hopefully end around 9.30-10 p.m. If you require somebody to walk to/from the venue with you for safety, please message @transclubmargate on Instagram. There will be a mixture of LGBTQ+ poets and musicians gracing the stage of Where Else, all in aid of raising funds for Queer Fight Club. A new trans led regular self-defence class. We are raising funds to be able to buy new equipment, afford our insurance costs, and start saving for a space for the winter months! On top of the fab entertainment, we will also be holding a raffle with prizes from local businesses. There will also be a small merch table at the back of the room with pieces made by Trans Club members!
