TKE is thrilled to host four local authors for our quarterly Local Author Showcase. Below is info about each author and their books. This event is free and open to the public but registration is required. Rachael Beck is the author of the illustarted fairytale, The Girl Raised by a Dragon. was the kind of kid that read during recess and wrote novels in notebooks. To this day, she still believes in magic and fairytales. She knows dragons are real because she’s met more than her fair share. She lives with the three black cats who graciously adopted her. Scott C. Hammond is the author of Finding the North Wind. He says life's lessons are best learned in the wilderness. He is an adventurer, author, educator and search and rescue specialist. His award winning non fiction books on lost person behavior, and his many years as a canine search specialist inform his fiction and make the stories real for the reader. Hammond says, I want to let the reader feel what it is like to be lost and the elation of being found. At the center of his fiction books is the joyous character of Boo the-wonder-dog. Dogs do things for us we cannot do for ourselves. In their drive to please they will go into the worst conditions and find people clinging to hope on the worst day of their lives. Scott is a search and rescue volunteer for one of the busiest teams in the US, and speaks and trains internationally to help teams become better. He is a professor at Utah State University. John Bonner Hammond is a fantasy/Sci-fi author on the autism spectrum. John started writing at a very young age, and has taken it on as his calling in life. He places a special emphasis on lovable characters, interesting dialogue, and fascinating settings. John and his wife, Audry, live at the base of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains of Utah. Sandra Schnakenburg is the award-winning author of The Housekeeper's Secert. After earning a B.S. in Finance at Arizona State University and an MBA from the University of Southern California, Sandra and her husband Karl, settled in Singapore, then Australia — where their twins, Kyle and Alexis, were proudly born. She considers faith and family to be themost important part of her life, adding the love of yoga, hiking, biking, and skiing as her main hobbies that keep her centered. After moving back to the United States, they lived in The Woodlands, Texas, where she and Karl raised their family. During that time, she worked on and off in corporate finance until she took up the love of writing. A philosophy of curiosity and a promise led her to write her first Memoir, The Housekeeper’s Secret - a personal story to fulfill her family’s dying housekeeper’s wish. In the process, she grew fascinated by the mechanics of storytelling and the power it holds connecting family through the generations. Information Source: The King's English Bookshop | eventbrite

Join Indigenous poet, Elise Paschen for a reading and signing from her new book of poetry, Blood Wolf Moon. This event is open to the public. Tickets are $5. Copies of the book will be available to purchase at the event. You may also pre-order your copy of Blood Wolf Moon to pick up at the event by either calling the store at 801-484-9100 or ordering online. If you cannot make this event, signed copies of Blood Wolf Moon may be ordered from our website. Please specify in the comments if you would like your copy personalized. Places in the signing line are reserved for those who purchase a copy from The King's English. About the Book: In her riveting sixth poetry collection, Blood Wolf Moon, Elise Paschen explores the story lines of her Osage heritage. The core of the book grapples with a dark period of American history, “The Reign of Terror,” when outsiders murdered individual members of the Osage for their oil headrights. Paschen searches her cultural past and family history in poems about the land, ancestors, childhood, loss, nature, transformation, flight, and language. In this cinematic book, she builds drama in overlapping narratives, reinventing ways to approach the line on the page. Described by poet Timothy Donnelly as “one of today’s most formally astute poets,” Paschen opens Blood Wolf Moon with the long poem, “Heritage,” a bracelet of crown poems, then shifts registers to formal poems and prose sequences. Poet and editor Esther Belin calls the concluding poems with their use of Osage language, “significant leaps into literary sovereignty.” Blood Wolf Moon captivates with its emotional intensity and unrelenting quest for the translation of identity. It’s a book you can’t put down. Information Source: The King's English Bookshop | eventbrite

Join us for a special storytime featuring the illustrator of the New York Times bestselling Fancy Nancy series, Robin Priess Glasser. Robin will be reading her new picture book, Flower Girls: A Story of Sisters. We encourage attendees to wear their fanciest dresses! This event is free and open to the public but registration is required. About the Book From magnetic sister duo New York Times bestselling Fancy Nancy illustrator Robin Preiss Glasser and author Jacqueline Preiss Weitzman comes an endearing picture book about sisters, the gardens they nurture, and the people they’ll grow into. Everything blooms in its own time. Lily’s garden is perfect and precise, while her sister Poppy’s garden is eccentric and wild. Now that their youngest sister, Daisy, is old enough to have a garden of her own, the question is what will this flower girl choose to plant, and will her sisters stand back and let her bloom, or will they get in the way in the name of being helpful? From the talented sister duo behind Gloria's Promise and You Can't Take a Balloon into the Metropolitan Museum, writer Jacqueline Preiss Weitzman and bestselling Fancy Nancy illustrator Robin Preiss Glasser bring us a tale of the bonds of sisterhood and the flourishing roots of individuality. About the Book When Miami bookseller Abe Jacobs is diagnosed with a rare disease, he returns to the Ahkwesáhsne Reservation in New York where he was born to undergo a healing at the hands of his great uncle. “Back on the Rez,” Abe undergoes a revelatory journey, confronting parts of himself he’s hidden ever since he left home, and learning to cultivate hope in the darkest times. With a voice as articulate as Ocean Vuong’s Little Dog, and as cracklingly irreverent as Holden Caulfield, Old School Indian delivers a rambunctious, refined, and altogether singular exploration of family secrets, of heritage and language preserved and forgotten, and of our capacities for healing and catharsis. If you have questions for JVN or Julie please email marketing@kingsenglish.com About the Book From Emmy Award winner Jonathan Van Ness ofQueer Eyeand #1New York Timesbestselling author Julie Murphy comes a bighearted story about friendship, love—and discovering the secrets and beauty of your own hometown. Sully is ready to get out of Hearst, Pennsylvania. With a fashion internship secured, the gender-nonconforming eighteen-year-old is trading in their stifling small town for the big city. Sully even sells their beloved car, to Bread—er, Brad—the most boring (and maybe only other) gay kid in town. When Sully’s internship goes up in smoke, they’re trapped in Hearst with no cash—and no car. Desperate, they go to the thrift store, their personal sanctuary. There, they discover a vintage bag—like put this baby in an airtight case at the MET vintage. If Sully can authenticate it, the resale value would be enough for a new life in the city. But when they begin to investigate, Sully finds themself haunted. Literally. With the ghost of Rufus, a drag performer from the fifties with no memory of how he died standing—no, floating—in their bedroom, Sully’s summer has a new purpose: 1) help this ghostly honey unlock his past and move on and 2) make bank—after all, the Real Real doesn’t take poltergeist purses. With Rufus in tow, and Brad—who’s looking pretty scrumptious these days—playing chauffeur, Sully delves into the history of the town they’re so desperate to escape. Only to discover that there might be more to Hearst than they ever knew. Information Source: The King's English Bookshop | eventbrite
