She is as comfortable at an X-rated experimental puppet show as she is at your grandmother’s 80th birthday party. She’s a lovable and playful comedian who can unite audiences in the stickiest of dive bars and the swankiest of theaters. Christen is witty, insightful, and warm. Her comedy reminds audiences that they're not alone in pushing their heavy boulders up their steep Sisyphean hills. Christen is an award winning comedian, and an accomplished host and show producer. To some, her most enviable accomplishment is finding a rare gem of a husband at a dive bar comedy open mic night. Every show with Christen is like a party with your best friends. To see pictures of her dog and her bike, follow her Instagram @christmanville. Kayla McCaffrey (she/her) is a Chicago-based comedian, improviser and actor. She has performed at Second City, iO Theater, Annoyance, Laugh Factory and at festivals Loons on the Lake, Detroit Comedy Festival and Boom Chicago Comedy Festival in Amsterdam. Born and raised in the small town of Marlborough, Connecticut, she has made it her life mission to be the bi wife she is today. Recent to marriage, she still navigates herself in the role of a wife, an inner child, a dog mom and a vegan. She can't wait to marry all of you, yes, you, too. You can catch more of her regularly performing on iO's resident company Megalodonna and of course her internationally recognized team Wolf Town. Follow her Instagram @jkaylalol Kris Lantzy (she/her) is a Chicago comedian and actor. She has performed theatre, sketch and stand-up comedy all over the city. Her recent stage credits include Outlaws with Avalanche Theatre Company, Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom with Bower Theatre Company, and her one-woman show SUREthing at NYC and Chicago Sketch Festivals. Ladies Who Lit Presents Movie Night, feat. The Art Idiot | Povos Gallery West Town

Arts Literary Arts
UPDATED 3/10/25: I hope you had a great weekend and that you’re enjoying The Vanishing Half! We’re so looking forward to our Movie Night on 3/24. As it turns out, hosting a screening in a theatrical venue is not a simple process! It is decidedly a very complicated process! And due to our inexperience/lack of knowledge in this screening rights arena, we’ve have had to switch films and venues for our March program in order to remain in compliance with Hollywood! That’s showbiz, baby! We'll be screening Roman Holiday at Povos Gallery (1541 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL 60642). Roman Holiday is referenced early on in The Vanishing Half as an influential film for Desiree and Stella as young girls. And while Roman Holiday is a charming romance and The Vanishing Half is a serious meditation on race and identity, both offer compelling takes on self-reinvention and the consequences of leaving behind one’s past. Roman Holiday also offers an interesting and important contrast to the book—what does it mean when escaping one’s life is a luxury versus a necessity? Wine will still be provided, in addition to complimentary concessions! Please plan to bring your own blanket and/or pillow if you want to be extra cozy, as we’ll now be minus our movie theater seating. Cozy chic looks are encouraged! Why not! Povos is opening a new exhibition on Saturday, 3/22, which will be on view during our private Movie Night! You can find an updated program agenda below. Best, Kaylen/Ladies Who Lit & ck/The Art Idiot More from Cortlyn: “I love the habit of watching a film adaptation before reading the book. With this event, we aim to create a collective and deepened engagement with the story, exploring how both mediums succeed and falter individually and together. We’ll also make connections to other films and books with similar themes, broadening the discussion and offering new insights into these complex narratives.” ABOUT THE ART IDIOT The Art Idiot is an independent criticism and programming publication. Originally created as a magazine for her master’s thesis, Cortlyn Kelly developed The Art Idiot as a means to create and contribute to more accessibility within the creative community. From art history and anthropology to sports and fashion to pop culture and politics, The Art Idiot explores a variety of topics but always stays true to the medium of film with an emphasis on works that elicit extraordinary emotions and keenly capture the human experience and condition. It’s always Art if it makes you feel something. ABOUT CORTLYN KELLY Cortlyn Kelly is a film and culture critic, art appreciator, avid baseball fan, and forever student. She holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and a Master of Arts in Humanities from the University of Chicago, where she created the first iteration of the publication, The Art Idiot. When she’s not watching, writing, or articulating about movies, she serves as a co-host of Kaveh & CK’s Screening Room, sits as the Co-Chair for the Black Harvest Film Festival Community Council, goes for walks around Chicago, and giggles with her friends and family. Since the first grade, her approach to all endeavors is: “There is so much to learn.” You can find Cortlyn Kelly on all platforms, most importantly Goodreads & Letterboxd, @coolkidcort.
