Join Lo’Vonia Parks and ArtWalks CLT for an engaging event in Charlotte. On November 4, experience the Color & Canvas: Mural Walks and Spray Painting at Five Points Plaza. This exciting community event offers a unique opportunity to explore the history of the Historic West End neighborhood through vibrant murals. Accompanied by artist Lo’Vonia Parks, take a guided Mural Walk and discover murals that highlight influential Civil Rights pioneers, prominent Black leaders, renowned Black musicians from North Carolina, and Afro-futurism.
Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of the community as you participate in a spray painting workshop using stencils based on the captivating murals. Design your own tote bag and unleash your creativity. This workshop takes place from noon to 2 pm at Five Points Plaza, conveniently located at 1803 West Trade Street, Charlotte, NC 28216.
The Mural Walks begin at JCSU Arts Factory and conclude at Five Points Plaza, where the painting workshop is held. Each Mural Walk commences with a walkthrough of the thought-provoking "My Momma Told Me" exhibit, curated by QC Family Tree at the Arts Factory. This event is free to attend, thanks to the generous support of the City of Charlotte Placemaking Grant Program.
To ensure an unforgettable experience, make sure to arrive early. The spray painting workshop starts promptly at noon. Light rail access is available via the Gold Line, and parking is conveniently provided at the Mosaic parking deck.
