Exploring Beginner Astronomy | Wizard Ranch Nature Preserve
Get an introducation to astronomical instruments, such as how to use binoculars and different types of telescopes, and how to find your way across the sky with a compass. Gain a basic understanding of a few constellations and planets that will be visible in the summer night sky. You'll also discover some of the interesting astronomical highlights including the Summer Triangle, the Hercules Cluster, and the Perseids meteor event. We will also discuss light pollution and explore the ways that wildlife relies on darkness and moon phases to migrate and thrive.
What to Expect:
We will be setting up in an open field area at Wizard Ranch Nature Preserve. Please arrive promptly to set up your night sky viewing space in the meadow prior to the program start time of 9 p.m. There will be a port-a-john on site. This event is recommended for ages 12 and up (participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult).
Please arrive between 8:30 and 9:00 p.m. – the program will start promptly at 9:00 p.m. We ask for your promptness to avoid light pollution and noise disruption.
What to Bring
:
Please dress appropriately for the weather. Personal insect repellent is recommended. Binoculars and telescopes are highly suggested – there will be a few telescopes for shared viewing. We recommend bringing a chair (reclining recommended!) or blanket. Water or non-alcoholic beverages and snacks are permitted. We recommend downloading a flashlight app on Android or iPhone with a red light function or bringing a headlamp with a red light setting. No white light is to be used during this event.

is an amateur astronomer with the York County Astronomical Society, where he has operated the York Learning Center Planetarium since 2007. He also volunteers as a Solar System Ambassador for NASA/JPL and has enjoyed sharing the wonders of the sky for over 40 years.

is a Lancaster County native with a passion for nature and birding. As the Volunteer Coordinator at Lancaster Conservancy, she is enthusiastic about educating the public on the importance of conservation and protection of wild spaces.

A Street Reunion 2025 | Roadside Park Port Of St. Albans
We're getting ready for the Fifth Annual A Street Reunion Picnic.
This Annual A Street Reunion It is not exclusive to just the A Streeters. The A Street Reunion was created as an event for all people who grew up in St. Albans. But guess what, the A Street Reunion is also not exclusive to just St. Albans. Were inviting people from anywhere within the Kanawha River valley. After all our current location sits on the Kanawha river.
This event is a reunion because we are reuniting friends and families from the Kanawha river valley. We started with the focus of bringing St. Albans neighborhoods together. Now we are expanding throughout the valley.
This year we will be honoring prominant black businesses from West Virginia. We always have an education component included in the reunion. Education is one of the core values for the A Street Reunion.
We will have a raffle for a 50 inch Hisense television. To participate in the raffle, you will need to purchase your event tickets before July 31, 2025.
This year we will have our second Cornhole tournament. There will also be Earl Campbell sausages and Beef Briskets on the grill.

principles, each evening program will include nature knowledge nuggets and a short, easy hike to practice what we’re learning. This series full of fun activities, mini-challenges, and the opportunity to practice new skills will help make every hike safer and more enjoyable!
The days are getting shorter and hunting season will soon be here. During this event, we will discuss strategies for staying visible and safe as we hike through wooded hills and valleys.
What to Expect:
We will explore the newest trail at Wizard Ranch, a moderately strenuous 2.5-mile rolling route. This series is recommended for ages 12 and up (anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult).
What to Bring:
Wear hiking boots or trail shoes. Bring hiking poles, water, and a snack. Dress for the weather. Bring a headlamp if you have one (we will have a few to borrow).
Hike Leader:
Peggy Eppig, Conservation Educator with Lancaster Conservancy, is an environmental historian and dynamic conservation educator who offers a hands-on approach to every theme from deep-time history to 21st century conservation methods and practices. She brings over 30 years of experience in interpretive and experiential education. Her wilder interests include ornithology (birds), herpetology (reptiles and amphibians), silvology (woodlands), and natural history illustration.

A public Summit on learning environments in schools | The Kimpton Pittman Hotel
We’ve always known that the design of our schools has an impact on how well we teach and learn. This public Summit explores evidence of this effect. What do we know, and what do we need to know? It mirrors a similar European event held mid-year in Copenhagen and a Southeast Asia / New Zealand / Australia event later this year. This Dallas event will help build networks and a comprehensive understanding of what is good evidence and how can this be used to build better schools.
With the increasing call for cost-effective school designs that do not disadvantage student learning, the need has never been greater for evidence that clearly shows what works best, for whom, and under what circumstances. The Summit will provide a combination of guest speakers from leaders on this topic, and Snapshot presentations by teams currently doing research in our geographical regions. These opinions span the academic sector; but also, school policy, practitioners and school leaders; and a range of industries that provide this infrastructure.
The event will be underpinned by learning from the Innovative Learning Environments and Student Experience project (ILESE). More than a year was spent on workshops with >250 learning environment leaders from education, academia and industries, representing 19 countries. This identified what research practitioners know of and use. It identified gaps and established a list of priorities for the next decade of research and action. It designed a research strategy capable of gathering the required evidence. That strategy was translated to six languages and piloted in 30 sites in 21 schools across 10 countries (n=946).
ILESE acts as one example of collaboration by those concerned with seeking better schools, to add an evidence-based foundation to our work. Come, discuss, and help conceptualise effective use of quality research that leads directly to benefits for our students.
