Tephra ICA Family Day | Tephra Institute of Contemporary Art
Arts
Tephra ICA is thrilled to announce the upcoming Family Day event, taking place on October 14, 2023, at the prestigious Tephra Institute of Contemporary Art in Reston. This event presents a unique opportunity for visitors of all ages to engage with the current exhibition while enjoying a fun-filled day. A highlight of the program is the Indigenous beading workshop led by acclaimed artist Noelle Garcia. With her expertise, participants will learn the art of beading and create their own stunning beaded appliqués.
Noelle Garcia, a renowned artist and educator from Chicagoland, explores themes of identity, family history, and recovered narratives in her work. As an indigenous artist hailing from the Klamath and Paiute tribes, Garcia's paintings embody her native worldview. Through traditional beading techniques, she also crafts soft sculptures inspired by everyday objects and mythologized artifacts from her father's incarcerated story. Her impressive artistic journey includes a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
It is worth noting that spaces for the Indigenous beading workshop are limited, so registration is required. This incredible opportunity is free of charge and open to the public, ensuring accessibility for all. Reston Community Center generously supports this program, promoting the arts and cultural enrichment within the community. Join us on Family Day at the Tephra Institute of Contemporary Art for an unforgettable experience that combines creativity, education, and inspiration.
