Canton Modernpresents twentieth-century Cantonese art and visual culture in its full complexity as an important chapter in global modernism. United in a shared linguistic and cultural identity, the southern port cities of Guangzhou (also known as Canton) and Hong Kong were historically marginal in China. The birthplace of revolution, the two cities gave rise to a distinctive visual and artistic modernism, one shaped by cross-cultural interactions and tensions between conservative and progressive artworlds. Cantonese artists broke away from the elegant poetics of classical ink painting to forge a socially oriented realism, depicting subjects ranging from leisure and labour to war and disaster. Working as journalists and publishers, they exploited the immediacy and circulation of print, photography, and cartoons to intervene in and even reform society.

"Chen Fushan Studio" uses Chen Fushan's home studio as a reference, and selects his personal belongings from his former residence in Wan Chai, including various household furnishings, hand-painted paintings and collections of books for display, in order to reproduce Chen's living environment and the layout when he was painting. Visitors can take a look at the original appearance of his former creative space outside the glass room, explore Chen's creative world with another visual experience, and gain a deeper understanding of the multiple aspects of this local artist. "Chen Fushan Studio" also leads the audience to review Chen's artistic journey and style development by displaying historical photos and text records about Chen's life, and wander in the story that created the legendary life of the "Watercolor King". Based on the contemporary era, it traces the trajectory of Hong Kong art history from the side.

And Thus Is This Land extends this collaborative process into the present. It asks participants to engage with each other, the artist, the original painters, and the poem that sparked this chain of creative work. They will navigate the tension between copying and adaptation, arriving at a work that both resembles the original yet is also wholly new.

Enter the "Maze Original Art Area" and "Card Room" 《Cardcaptor Sakura》 was created by the famous creative group CLAMP. The comic style is distinctive and delicate. You can view about 200 reproductions of original paintings from the early and late stages in the "Maze Original Painting Area"! Different reproductions of original paintings will be exhibited in the early and late stages of the exhibition. The early stage focuses on characters, while the later stage focuses on the theme content, allowing the audience to fully experience the charm of different chapters! The special exhibition area "Card Room" will display Guluo cards, Sakura cards and transparent cards, and there will be special surprises, which is exciting. Get a close look at the real Sakura's special battle suit and the 3-meter-tall Killer The exhibition will not only display the "Study Room Where It All Began" and the cards in the work, but will also open the studio of Sakura's friend Tomoyo, where you can get up close and personal with 1:1 replicas of many of Sakura's battle suits! There is no age limit for the exhibition content, but because there will be various audio-visual effects in the exhibition, it is recommended that children under 10 years old be accompanied by their parents.
