Experience the excitement of roller skating at Skate the Town: Kickoff Event, a pop-up indoor roller rink located at the newly-reopened Henry J. Kaiser Center for Arts in Oakland. This 12-week series, running every Sunday from October 1st to December 17th, offers a range of activities for all ages and skill levels.
From 2:30 to 5:00 PM, join Roller Dance x HJK Arts for a skate lesson and an all-ages skate session. Led by Richard Humphrey, a renowned skater and founder of Roller Dance, this lesson provides an opportunity to learn new moves, improve skills, and connect with fellow skating enthusiasts. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned skater, this afternoon of fun, learning, and camaraderie guarantees a memorable experience.
As the sun begins to set, the energy ramps up! From 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, immerse yourself in the rhythm of the music spun by our talented DJs. Lace up your skates and hit the floor as you dance, glide, and groove to the beats. Keep an eye out for captivating performances that will take your breath away.
Tickets for this event are priced at $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Feel free to bring your own skates or purchase a pair from Quad Republic. The kickoff event will take place on October 1, 2023, and will feature DJ sets by Mueve, WHATSUPALBERT, and Nananastia, as well as halftime performances from Roller Dance Skate Academy. Quad Republic will also be present, offering skate and accessory sales. Food and drinks will be available to keep you fueled up throughout the day.
Skate the Town: Kickoff Event is organized by Roller Dance and the Henry J. Kaiser Center for Arts. Roller Dance, founded by Richard Humphrey, has been a staple of the skate community since the 70s and offers instructional skate workout videos as well as weekly skate lessons in Oakland. The Henry J. Kaiser Center for Arts, Oakland's newest premier arts venue, provides a historic and vibrant space for arts and culture in the East Bay.

The HJK Arts venue is wheelchair accessible with ADA compliant bathrooms.
