Lewes
Arts Theater
Be prepared to be entertained. This February, the 6th Lewes Scouts will stage a Gang Show at their Scout Hut on Ham Lane. For 92 years Gang Shows have been staged by Scouts all around the world. True to tradition, the 6th Lewes Gang Show is a revue show of comic gags, sketches and set pieces rehearsed and performed by members of the 6th Lewes Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. From jokes about Scout cooking and camping, re-imaginings of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, The Four Yorkshiremen and parodies of nature documentaries and Lord of the Rings, there is something in the show for the whole family. Offstage, the Scouts have also taken the lead; much of the performed material has been devised by the group and the Scouts fulfil roles front of house and backstage. The 6th Lewes Scout Gang Show will be presented at 6pm on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th February 2025 at the Scout Hut on Ham Lane. Tickets are available on the night and via Eventbrite, £5.00 for adults and £3.00 for children. Information Source: John Kirk | eventbrite

Join us on Sunday February 9th 2025 at 6.30pm in the cosy setting of Cliffe Hall, in the heart of Lewes, for a nourishing and heart-opening Singing Circle! We'll start with a luscious and healing cup of Cacao, to help open the Heart and soften. Through a heart-centered meditation, we'll set our intentions for the evening and the year ahead, then gently awaken and open our voices before settling into the main part of the evening: a beautiful, sacred Singing Circle. We’ll sing a variety of music with sacred roots, bhajan, mantras and also some original music. This event is hosted by Sonia Ter Hovanessian ( singer, flautist and coach), who will offer her music, voice, guidance and Heart to the event. If you have instruments and would like to bring them along, please do and if you'd like to share any music, that would also be most welcome. If you would like to come but don't feel up to singing yourself and wish to just enjoy being surrounded by singing and music, that is also absolutely fine. Whether you are new to singing or a seasoned vocalist, this event offers a unique opportunity to explore the profound benefits of singing, the voice and music in a supportive and nurturing environment. Contribution The Singing Circle, inclusive of Cacao is on a sliding scale from £20 - £30. For those who don't want any cacao, we can offer a slight discount. If you would like to come along and money is an issue, please send me a message directly (details below), and we can see what we can do. If anyone wants to pay one forward for others who may not have the funds, then please let me know, as this is a way for me to be able to ensure these events are accessible, regardless of cost. 😊 Please contact me directly to make a payment via bank transfer, or cash if you would like to save on the Eventbrite processing charges. *-* It is recommended to book in advance, either on Eventbrite or directly with the organiser (number below). *-* Please bring your own (yoga) mat, cushion and blanket. *-* There is tap water available at the centre. She has a background in classical and jazz music. She has studied under numerous teachers and as a coach uses a blend of EVT (Estill Voice Technique), jazz improvisation and intuitive heart-centered techniques. Her own journey with the voice has been far from easy, though. Growing up she suffered from nodules on her vocal cords, preventing her from even speaking at times. Despite receiving speech therapy, her true healing came only when she began studying under the guidance of a vocal coach. And through the beauty and power of singing she dove deep into the voice, all whilst healing deep emotional wounds through therapy, which were probably the root cause of the dysphonia. This led her to embrace her voice fully and become the sensitive and heartfelt singer she is today. This journey, along with her discovering medicine music, sacred chants and mantras in more recent years, along with her own spiritual awakening led her to a renewed understanding of the importance of music and especially the voice in our everyday life, for inner healing, and to bring joy and connection to the world. She is currently studying Integral Sound Healing with the Voice at the Sound Healing Academy. Information Source: Sonia Ter Hovanessian | eventbrite

A discussion of artists printing technologies. Alej ez is a contemporary printmaker, Jocelyn is a paper conservator expert. Alej Ez’s architectural practice combines traditional hand sketching with computer-aided design. However, it wasn’t until moving to Brighton in 2011 that Ez found a nurturing art environment. This inspired them to learn and practice traditional printmaking techniques such as foil lithography, stone lithography, linocuts, colographs, and cyanotypes. In printmaking, the concept of mark-making is essential—it refers to the various tools used to create marks and patterns on the base material, which are then transferred to paper. Ez’s practice experiments with creating ink drawings using a printmaking mindset and methodology. This analogue phase is followed by a digital phase, where color is added and, at times, scenes are created through collage Information Source: Chalk Gallery ltd | eventbrite

Yosi is a seasoned performer, and is delighted to be playing an exciting programme : Scarlatti and Arne sonatas, Beethoven's exciting Tempest Sonata, a piano score for Sibelius's epic Finlandia Suite, a sprinkling of Chopin studies, Eric Satie's Gymnopedie and Gnossienne and mesmerising Ludovico Einaudi pieces. Yosi performed J S Bach's Goldberg Variations at St Michael's Church in Lewes at the end of November which was very successful. He performed there last April as part of the monthly classical music programme as well as St Anne's Church, Lewes in the summer. He has played at Cafe Yukari countless times, and his repertoire has included the last three Beethoven Sonatas, a concert of music from the Impressionist period including Debussy and Ravel. He made his Lewes debut last February with a concert at Trinity St John sub Castro Church. Last year, he played at Brighton Unitarian Church as part of the Brighton Fringe, as well as a benefit concert for Ukrainian refugees, playing a programme of Ukrainian and Russian composers. He has given concerts at Burgh House, Lauderdale House and Leighton House in London, and performed recitals in City of London churches, such as St Mary Le-Bow, St Mary At-Hill and St Martin within Ludgate. He has also performed Beethoven Concerto no. 3 and Mozart Concerto no. 21 in D minor with the London Charity Orchestra. Yosi has played music to accompany silent cinema at Cafe Yukari, Ealing Classic Cinema, the OSO Arts in Barnes and other educational establishments. He accompanied music to The Temptress, Metropolis and Modern Times in the autumn last year at the All Saints Centre in Lewes as too. He also came back to play Nosferatu at the Brighton Unitarian Church for Halloween. He was back at the Brighton Unitarian Church last Halloween with music to accompany the silent horror film, the Cabinet of Dr Caligari, and more recently, he accompanied music to the classic silent 1923 film The Hunchback of Notre Dame at Trinity Church St John's Sub Castro in Lewes. With his band Momentum, he plays saxophone/flute and clarinet regularly at the Bull's Head in Barnes and the Pheasantry Pizza Express in Chelsea and Holborn. They performed at the London Jazz Festival last November at George IV in Chiswick, London to critical acclaim. They also made their debut this summer at the Con Club in Lewes last June.
