LoST on the North Coast Inland Trail- a Smart-guided Cycle Tour in Northwest OhioGo long - go short - go in-between - or go HOLY TOLEDO! 4 options on this LoST cycling adventure on a historical northern Ohio rail-to-trail. The North Coast Inland Trail primarily follows a route built by the Toledo, Norwalk, and Cleveland Railroad (TN&C) from 1851-1853. The short (FREE), medium and long options of the LoST cover an 18-mile section of the NCIT (North Coast Inland Trail) through Lorain and Huron counties with a common tasty turnaround spot. Tony Packo's restaurant is included in the tour route -notable as a hangout of the star Farr, and the birthplace of the Hungarian hot dog. Learn more about the rich history of Sarasota through the structures, architects, styles, and significance of several buildings, including the 1926 Elliott Collegiate Neo-Gothic former Sarasota Senior High School and the 1957 Paul Rudolph support building for the “New” Sarasota High School. About Marty Hylton Currently the President of Architecture Sarasota, Morris Hylton III has nearly thirty years experience documenting, conserving, and advocating for cultural heritage. Trained as an architect and historic preservationist, he specializes in closely collaborating with community stakeholders to develop multifaceted strategies and programs to preserve and manage resources. Marty’s research and professional work have focused on the distinct stewardship challenges of 20th-century heritage, particularly modernist sites and buildings of the post-World War II era, and the preparation and recovery of historic sites and communities impacted by natural disasters and coastal hazards. From 2002 to 2007, Marty served as Strategic Initiatives Manager for the World Monuments Fund – an international non-profit with a mission of saving endangered heritage globally. While at WMF, he oversaw recovery efforts along the Mississippi Gulf Coast and New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina and helped create the Modernism at Risk program. For 14 years, Marty served as Director of Historic Preservation at the University of Florida where he launched the Envision Heritage program dedicated to harnessing digital technologies for documenting historic buildings and communities. More recently, he was the U.S. National Park Service’s inaugural Historic Architect for Climate Change where he helped create the Climate, Science, and Disaster Response Program. Learn about his artistic practice and personal experience designing shoes as part of the “Game Worn” campaign in partnership with Nike Sportwear. This artist talk is inspired by Sarasota Art Museum’s exhibition Future Now: Virtual Sneakers to Cutting Edge Kicks, on view now through May 4, 2025. About Jamie DeRuyter Jamie DeRuyter earned a BFA in Computer Animation from Ringling College of Art and Design. Jamie joined Ringling College as faculty in 2002 and has maintained an active professional practice creating animation and visual effects for multiple experiences and theme park rides including The Radio City Christmas Spectacular, Twister Ride It Out, Revenge of The Mummy, Dueling Dragons, The Simpsons and Antarctica: Empire Of The Penguin. He has created animation and visual effects for several game titles including Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Trilogy, the award winning remake of Shadow of the Colossus, and Demon's Souls. Now as Department Head, Jamie has led the development of our newest major at Ringling College. THE RIDE Our bicycle rides are a great way to explore Western Pennsylvania and beyond. The rides are hosted by Leo McCarthy, Army veteran and retired Moon Township police chief. Leo works hard to plan our rides, peppering them with an ounce of fun and a dash of history. The rides are social in nature and limited to a small group of 15 riders. We take our time and enjoy the camaraderie. Most rides are between 15 and 20 miles. If you don't have a bike, we may be able to help you. Email christine.ree@restore22.org for information. This tour incorporates a wide variety of riding environments including some moderate hills for a 17-mile round trip. While the official trail is mostly closed to motor vehicles, it does incorporate two dead-end streets. We will ride on a gated, closed, paved road for miles passing the tunnel for the Allegheny County Fire Training Academy and riding under the new Southern Expressway. Clinton Road leads to the rear airport entrance. It begins with a narrow shoulder for 2/10s of a mile before becoming very wide at the hill-crest. We will ride along airport runways, and after traversing the airport parking area, we will arrive at the main terminal and moving walkway. Our return trip is much more down hill, faster and easier. A free lunch will be provided at Mission BBQ in Robinson Township for those who wish to attend. Exact meet up details will be provided the day prior to the ride. YOUR GUIDE Your guide for this excursion is Leo McCarthy. After serving three years in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps at Fort Hood, Leo joined the Moon Township police force as a uniformed patrol officer in 1976. He rose through the ranks serving as a detective and sergeant before being promoted to captain in 1999, and then to chief in 2005. After 41 years of service to Moon Township, he retired on January 1, 2018. Leo is highly educated in the field of law enforcement and graduated from the FBI National Academy, Class 198 in 1999. He is an avid cyclist and enjoys exploring the region's bike trails. REQUIREMENTS Open to anyone who served in the U.S. military and one guest. Be sure to register your guest.All riders must be 18 years of age or older.Riders of all skill levels are welcome, though they should be familiar with the basics of shifting bicycle gears.All riders are required to bring their own personal protection equipment.
