The Frontier Culture Museum is thrilled to announce that Cindy Kierner will be giving a talk on her latest book, "The Tory's Wife", which has been published by the prestigious University of Virginia Press. This captivating book delves into the story of Jane Spurgin, a dedicated patriot who fervently supported the Revolution, while her husband, William, fought on the side of the king as a loyalist. However, after the war ended, William abandoned his family, leaving Jane to bravely fight to keep their home, which was at risk of being lost due to his Toryism. Jane's battle for her home ultimately led her to demand the same rights as her fellow citizens, making a bold and radical statement in revolutionary America. We invite you to join us at the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton on October 24, 2023, for this insightful and thought-provoking book talk. Cindy Kierner, an esteemed historian and author, has expertise in early America, women's history, and the history of disasters. Her previous works, such as "Scandal at Bizarre: Rumor and Reputation in Jefferson's America" and "Martha Jefferson Randolph: Daughter of Monticello, Her Life and Times", have garnered critical acclaim. Currently teaching at George Mason University in Fairfax, Kierner is also working on her next book, a biography of the remarkable Joan Whitney Payson, tentatively titled "Mother of the Mets: The Life and Times of Joan Whitney Payson". Don't miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights into the extraordinary life of Jane Spurgin and the broader context of revolutionary America. Please note that ticket prices for this event are currently unavailable. The Frontier Culture Museum is located at 1290 Richmond Avenue, Staunton, VA 24401.
