AGE REQUIREMENT: 14+ years old Come join Save Mount Diablo for a day of beginning rock climbing instruction at Mount Diablo's classic Boy Scout Rocks. We will go over equipment instruction as well as coaching on a number of top rope climbs, and provide insight into the importance of climbing stewardship at both climbing areas and in outdoor recreation. Rock climbing is a very fun activity with great benefits. Be sure to bring snacks, water, sturdy shoes you are comfortable hiking in, and rock-climbing shoes. SMD will provide harness, ropes, hardware necessary and instruction. The Schoolhouse Soiree is back for another year. Our summer fundraiser, traditionally held at the Tassajara One Room School is a night you won't want to miss. This hands-on camp offers some useful baking skills and techniques, with lots of opportunities to get creative.  This session is all about European baking. From tarts to French macarons, scones and Italian Focaccia, your young baker is sure to learn a lot and have fun!  Day 1-  Chocolate Tarts- We will mix the dough, roll, cut, shape and bake out tart shells from scratch.  We will make scrumptious chocolate ganache  We will fill and decorate our tarts  Day 2-  French macarons… the fanciest cookie of them all… We will learn how to make French Macarons from scratch. These delicate cookies are definitely an advanced baking exercise, but we know our teens can master the challenge!  Day 3- Scones and bread prep- We will get busy making Tal’s popular Scones from scratch. This baking camp will introduce young children to different baking styles and techniques. The camp is very hands-on, and encourages children to learn to follow recipes and get creative. The kids will get comfortable mixing doughs, understanding yeast, cutting, shaping and decorating.  Day 1- Pinwheel cookies-  We will make sugar cookie dough from scratch in different colors and flavors. We will mix ingredients, roll the dough and create pinwheel cookies. While our cookies are baking, we will get creative with fondant.   Day 2-  Cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting- We will make these scrumptious baked goods from scratch, while learning about the magic of yeast. While the rolls are rising and baking, we will mix frosting for coating the rolls.  If time permits, we will make quick cinnamon bites to enjoy in class.  Day 3- Oreo cupcakes- We will make an Oreo cake batter, cracking eggs, measuring, whisking and mixing, and send these yummy bakes to the oven.  While the cupcakes are baking, we will prepare an Oreo frosting, and some decorations for our cupcakes.  Day 4-   Who doesn’t love fresh Bread?
