Cultural Experiences
We have five years to stop nature’s decline. We know the challenge. Together, we can deliver the solutions. Join us on Thursday, 11 September, at the Bristol Beacon for a day to celebrate nature in the UK, and discuss the action we must take together to restore it. Nature brings immense value to our lives, to the economy and to communities. Whether it's protecting communities from flooding and extreme weather, supporting rural areas and food production, helping us tackle climate change, or improving our mental health – nature underpins it all. At our first Wild Summit, we’ll bring together nature lovers, community campaigners, businesses, politicians, officials, and policy experts for a day of presentations, panel discussions, workshops, and conversations focused on the critical importance of investing in nature. We’ll celebrate the incredible work being done by charities, community groups, innovators, and land managers, as well as exploring the vital roles of tourism, research, upskilling, and corporate and government projects in restoring our natural world. The goal? To help the UK halt and reverse nature's decline by 2030. Why now? The UK has signed an ambitious global agreement to halt and reverse the decline of nature by the end of this decade. However, with just five years left until the deadline, nature is still facing rapid decline. At the Wild Summit, we’ll demonstrate the vital role nature plays in daily lives and the urgent need for large-scale investment and action. What is the Wild Summit all about? The Wild Summit is about coming together to make real change happen. It’s a day for sharing knowledge, forging partnerships, and inspiring action. It’s about celebrating what’s already working, while also asking: how can we do more and do better? Together, we can restore Britain’s natural heritage and safeguard it for generations to come. What can you expect on the day? With over 100 speakers and over 30 sessions, our inaugural Wild Summit will offer an extensive range of keynote presentations, partner events, panel discussions and practical workshops on everything from nature friendly farming to freshwater, planning policy to natural capital. We will be joined by partners and speakers from major environmental groups, including the RSPB, National Trust, WWF UK, Marine Conservation Society and many more as well as celebrities and experts in the fields of planning, landscape restoration, water policy, access to nature, agriculture and biodiversity for a packed main stage programme. Schedule for the day 8:30 - 9:30am - Registration, breakfast and networking 9:30am - 4:30pm - presentations, panels, workshops, networking and much more These sessions will include our main stage programme and our partner event programme which will feature sessions from organisations including: RSPB UK Rewilding Britain The Rivers Trust British Trust for Orithology Marine Conservation Society Butterfly Conservation The Western Forest Wild Justice 5:30 - 7:30pm - evening reception open to all ticket holders. Building on the success of our popular compost tours, we are now offering an in-depth one day course at our charity 's composting space at Hartcliffe City Farm . Healthy soil supports plant growth, retains water efficiently, and provides essential nutrients, making it the foundation of both productive gardens and resilient ecosystems - and essential for addressing climate change and food security. One of the most effective ways to improve soil health is through composting. At Heart of BS13, our charity are turning local food waste into nutritious compost, which we use to improve the soil at our sustainable flower farm. We collect food waste from local houses, businesses, and even schools! On our Essential Composting course, we will guide you through the process of turning food waste into compost, helping you understand the science behind decomposition, the key elements of an effective compost system, and practical techniques for maintaining a healthy compost pile. The course will include: - exploring the benefits of composting to wildlife, soil and climate health - understanding different approaches and systems for composting - building a wood chip bay from scratch - loading our compost bays, including the Ridan food waste composter, and exploring a variety of different materials that can be composted - turning and 'doctoring' a green waste pile - compost is never ‘wrong’ and can be helped to break down faster by adding different materials - ideas for dealing with more challenging waste materials - making some potting mixes - each participant will take home a bag of potting compost Whether you are a beginner looking to start composting at home or someone seeking to improve your composting skills, this workshop will provide the knowledge and confidence to turn organic waste into a valuable resource. What to bring: a packed lunch, note book, pen, water bottle, and strong shopping bag to carry your potting mix home with you. Refreshments (tea/coffee/biscuits) will be provided.
