This 2-hour workshop centers around the maxim that rest is an act of resistance, a radical form of self-care, and a powerful tool for Black, Indigenous, and women/femmes of colour to reclaim their lives from the constant pressure to perform and produce. Inspired by the work of Black feminist thinkers like Tricia Hersey, Audre Lorde, and bell hooks, we will explore the importance of rest, its connection to resistance, and practical ways to cultivate peace within our lives. This workshop will adopt an embodied approach, inviting participants to engage in this powerful discussion of rest and reclamation. Participants can expect to: Engage in grounding, meditative exercises that encourage deep rest and self-reflection. Explore the ways that hustle culture impacts their well-being and presents obstacles to rest. Reflect on their own cultural practices that resist capitalism through rest, play, and community. Develop practical tools to prioritize rest and ease in their daily lives. This workshop is open to self-identified Black women/femmes, Indigenous women/femmes, and women/femmes of colour seeking to reclaim their sense of peace, balance, and self-care while actively resisting the destructive demands of capitalism and hustle culture. Participants are encouraged to bring their own "rest supports" to the workshop - this may include blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, slippers, or any other items that help them cultivate a sacred space during this rest practice. About the facilitator: Alexis Charles (she/her) is a passionate and visionary change-maker with over fourteen years of experience in the education and community development fields. Having been born and raised in the GTA, she now lives in Guelph where she enjoys creating and leading opportunities that celebrate Black, African/Caribbean, and diverse identities in our community. Alexis is the founder and owner of SHYNE Body Butter, a wellness brand that supports young women and femmes in the Guelph/Kitchener-Waterloo area through simple skincare, education, and empowerment. Her past experience includes serving as the Coordinator of Cultural Diversity Programs at the University of Guelph and Director of Programming with the Guelph Black Heritage Society. She has a Master of Education in Anti-Oppression Education and Community Development, and is committed to addressing educational equities and supporting those traditionally underserved in academia. Alexis also loves to travel, and lived in South Korea for three years. Some things that bring her joy are rollerskating, HIIT workouts, old school dancehall music, and her cat Zora :) Information Source: Guelph Museums | eventbrite

WEDNESDAY MEDITATION CLASS WEDNESDAYS 7 PM - 8:15PM in person | livestream for members Grow Through What you Go Through a 4-week series in June (June 4 – June 25) Hardship and suffering is something that we all experience. We do not like the painful feelings associated with hardship, but Buddha encourages us to respond to difficulties in a different way; we can learn to respond with patience. This has so many benefits including deepening and strengthening our experience of inner peace and our ability to develop love and compassion. In particular, through contemplation and meditation we can overcome the problem of anger, learning how to develop and maintain patience when faced with even the most difficult circumstances. Each class presents a new topic with new contemplations and meditations for our training in overcoming anger and developing patience. Topics include: What is patience? The benefits of patience A spiritual response to hardship Learning from our suffering More information at akbc.ca Everyone welcome. $15 a class. $48 4-class pass (series pass). Join us at the Moth Garden at Ignatius . Created by artists Lisa Hirmer and Christina Kingsbury, the Moth Garden is dedicated to the often underappreciated, yet vitally important nocturnal pollinators of our world. Join the artists for a nighttime walk to the garden where participants will spend time observing the vibrant world active during the nighttime. Guided by the artists, participants will explore how to shift their sensory perception, and consider how other beings, like moths, sense the world. Participants will meet at 9 pm at the Farm Workshop parking lot (follow the signs) and then walk together to the Moth Garden. This is about 15 minutes along a gravel roadway with mowed grass paths which have some uneven surfaces and slight to moderate inclines. The walk is less than 1km. Please let us know if this is an access barrier as we can arrange to shuttle some folks to the garden if needed. Please contact us if you have any other access needs that we can support with. Because the garden and event are centered around meeting other beings in their own sensory worlds, and to support human access considerations, we ask that you avoid the use of insect repellants and other scented products. We will have bug suits available, or let us know if you will bring your own. We also recommend long sleeves and pants to protect from the mosquitos. Park in the farm workshop parking lot. Public Speaking Training: According to a 1973 survey by the Sunday Times of London, 41% of people list public speaking as their biggest fear. Forget small spaces, darkness, and spiders, standing up in front of a crowd and talking is far more terrifying for most people. Through this workshop your participants will become more confident and relaxed in front of an audience which will translate into a successful speaking event. Train the Trainer Training: Whether you are preparing to be a professional trainer, or you are someone who does a bit of training as a part of their job, you always want to be prepared. Your participants will understand that training is a process where skills, knowledge, and attitudes are applied in a unique way. Presentation Skills Training: In a survey carried out amongst experienced, middle and senior executives, designed to determine the things that they feared most, public speaking came out as number one. Death was eighth on the list! So, most of us would rather die than stand up and present! Practical Sales Skills Training: These practical sales skills training has been developed for salespeople or people who are required to sell as part of their role. This course is applicable for both people relatively new to sales as well as those who have a lot of experience as the content is flexible enough to adapt to suit the audience. Conflict Management Training: Disagreements, differences of opinion and conflicting perspectives on key issues inevitably arise in any context where people are working together. Research has shown that workplace conflicts can become highly destructive. Negative emotions may be stirred up, poisoning team morale, creating stress and destroying relationships. Power Query and Power Pivot for Excel Training: Power BI (including Power Query & Power Pivot) are the biggest Excel news items in the last 10 years. They give Excel users the power to draw information out of multiple sources, link it together then perform calculations on it that can then be sliced & diced any way you want. Essential Management Skills Training : Every day, managers solve difficult problems, turn organisations around, and achieve astonishing performance. To be successful, every organisation needs good managers. Manager Management Training: With this course, you will be able to provide the skills, guidance, and empowerment to your team of managers. They will then be better suited in leading and motivating their team and thus produce fantastic results. To be a successful manager means having a wide range of skills. Through this workshop, you will be able to disperse your knowledge and experience throughout your leadership team. Sales Presentation Mastery Training: Sales are the absolute most essential component of any business, and selling skills are the most highly valued skills in today’s business landscape. The world's fastest growing and most successful businesses have one thing in common: they have effective sales people that drive their business forward. Time Management Training: Personal time management skills are essential for professional success in any workplace. Those able to successfully implement time management strategies are able to control their workload rather than spend each day in a frenzy of activity reacting to crisis after crisis - stress declines and personal productivity soars! These highly effective individuals are able to focus on the tasks with the greatest impact to them and their organization. Internet Marketing Fundamentals Training: Marketing has changed dramatically over the last decade.
