Susie McCabe: Best Behaviour WIP | St Andrews Bowling Club
Feb 15, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
St Andrews
Critically-acclaimed, multi award-winning comedian Susie McCabe is bringing a work-in-progress version of her new show Best Behaviour to St. Andrews for an intimate preview ahead of its full debut at the famous King’s Theatre in Glasgow. Susie McCabe’s career has been so stratospheric in recent years, she’s indisputably one of the biggest acts working in Scottish comedy today. Having made multiple TV appearances including Have I Got News for You, Live At The Apollo, Frankie Boyle’s New World Order and Question Time, she’s also had a sell-out Edinburgh Fringe show and a triple-sell out run at the legendary King’s Theatre in Glasgow. Even with multiple Scottish Comedy Awards under her belt, she had to make room on her shelf for one more when in 2024 she was awarded the Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award, with the accolade presented by the Big Yin himself via video link. “I was blown sideways!” – Billy Connolly “A naturally funny storyteller and a genuine stand up. Highly recommended.” - Kevin Bridges “Susie is up there with the best.” - Fred MacAulay “Susie McCabe is damn funny.” - Stewart Francis “McCabe is hilariously down to earth and has a fantastically positive outlook. About as far down the opposite end of the spectrum from disappointing as you could get.” - Broadway Baby “The ever-reliable Susie McCabe delivers plenty of chuckles.” - The Scotsman “Prepare to laugh yourself silly.” - Three Weeks Support act TBA **PLEASE READ CAREFULLY** · Tickets can be refunded no less than 24 hours before the show. · Support acts can be subject to change at short notice. · The show is in two parts separated by an interval. Doors to the performance room open at 7:30pm, half an hour before the start time of 8pm. Please enter before the show starts but not before 7:30pm. Attendees who arrive late will not be granted admission or a refund. · This is NOT a standing event. All audience members must be seated while the performance is underway, unless you need to leave the room. · If you are part of a group and want to sit together, we recommend arriving early to get your desired seats. · Please seat from the front. · Don’t talk or heckle during the performances. This rule is NOT optional. It is very distracting for both the performer and other audience members. Some performers might talk to the audience, but otherwise please let the comedians do the talking. Heckling does not ‘help the show’. Think of it like cinema rules: laughter, cheers, applause are all great, but talking or yelling out is not. And another cinema rule… · Please put your phone on silent. Photos are fine but please no video or flash photography. · These shows are for people aged 18 and over. You may be asked to show ID if you do not look of age. · Comedy Dundee does not necessarily agree or disagree with the opinions and viewpoints expressed by the comedians. Acts are booked based on their ability to make people laugh, beyond that we respect freedom of expression. If you disagree or are offended by what you hear, you are free to express this by not laughing, by leaving, or by respectfully raising your objections with the act after the show or via social media. You may not interrupt an on-going performance. · Audience members who repeatedly break these rules will be asked to leave.

Author Nick Newman's new novel, 'The Garden', reading and book signing | Cambo House, Cambo Estate
Feb 16, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
St Andrews
“The Garden is both a horror story and a meditation on love at the end of the world. It’s a testament to Newman’s extraordinary gifts that its creeping dread never overwhelms its tenderness.” Emerald Fennell, Oscar-winning director of PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN and SALTBURN. Nick Newman is the adult pen-name of Nicholas Bowling, author of several children’s novels including Witchborn and In the Shadow of Heroes, which was shortlisted for the Costa Children’s Book Award. He has previously worked as a teacher, musician, and a stand-up comedian and is currently working as a bookseller at Daunt Books in London. A darkly beautiful, eerie, hypnotic novel about two elderly sisters living alone at the edge of the world. In a place and time unknown, two elderly sisters live in a walled garden, secluded from the outside world. Evelyn and Lily have only ever known each other. What was before the garden, they have forgotten; what lies beyond it, they do not know. Each day is spent in languid service to their home: tending the bees, planting the crops, and dutifully following the instructions of the almanac written by their mother. When a nameless boy is found hiding in the boarded house at the centre of their isolated grounds, their once-solitary lives are irrevocably disrupted. Who is he? Where did he come from? And most importantly, what does he want? As suspicions gather and allegiances falter, Evelyn and Lily are forced to confront the dark truths about themselves, the garden, and the world as they’ve known it. Light refreshments included.
