The Self-Portraiture Workshop with Rafaela Luna is a transformative art-making experience that guides participants on a profound journey of self-discovery. Through the exploration of self-portraiture, attendees will delve into the depths of their identity, uncovering hidden talents and gaining meaningful insights. Led by West Harlem's very own Rafaela Luna, this workshop breathes life into your self-portrait while examining the shaping of the self through the lens of social justice. No previous art experience is required, only an open heart and a desire to explore your identity through creativity. The workshop will take place at Kota Alliance, located at 43 Saint Nicholas Place, New York, NY 10031. For those traveling via public transportation, the venue is conveniently within walking distance from the 145th Street Subway Station, accessible via lines A, B, C, and D. Alternatively, attendees coming from the United Nations HQ have the option to walk to the Bryant Park station or take the M42 bus and transfer to the D or B line. Buses M2, M3, M100, M101, and Bx6 also provide access to the venue. In line with safety measures, vaccination is strongly encouraged and attendees are kindly asked to stay home if feeling unwell. Spend the morning learning about and observing birds on Tuesday, April 8th at the Averill Preserve with Little Forks Conservancy! Local birder Randy Kursinsky will share his knowledge on this hike along the Tittabawassee River, in Sanford. Please register to attend! Hiking Conditions This hike will consist of hiking on paved and rustic grass trails, with potential wet and muddy conditions. Hiking pace will be slower, with time for stopping and observation along the way, with minimal noise. What to Bring Attendees should bring binoculars and/or download the mobile app, Merlin Bird ID , to observe birds and their calls. Additionally, attendees should dress for the weather and potentially wet and muddy trail conditions. Overview Are you looking to learn more about your food and local agriculture? Join UF/IFAS Extension Seminole County to learn all about food from farm to fork. This monthly series will have rotating topics on food from agriculture to gardening, cooking healthy food, and more. This month we will be covering Dairy, Cheese, and more on June 5th 10AM-12:30PM. This is Part 2 of this month's Farm to Fork Sessions! Part 2 is an in-person workshop with hands on activities that pairs with our monthly Farm to Fork Webinar (Part 1). The fee to attend this workshop is $25 and includes lecture, hands-on activities, and take home goodies related to the monthly topic. Workshop registration will close on 6/3/2025 at 4PM. The Part 1 webinar (on 6/3/2025 at 12-1PM online) is free to attend, but you must register in advanced on zoom. Join us for SMPDC’s 61 st annual meeting, Bright Ideas for a Stormy Future: Strengthening Southern Maine’s Electrical Grid ! Power outages have substantial impacts on southern Maine’s communities and economy, costing our region’s residents and businesses $11.2 billion in 2023. Our meeting will feature an interactive presentation of power outage trends and a discussion of how our region can strengthen our electrical grid. As always, we will also have our business meeting votes on the FY25-26 Workplan, Budget and Executive Committee, a catered dinner, and cash bar. For our member communities, please share this invitation with other municipal staff and board and committee members who may be interested. Tickets are $35 per person.
