The concept for this extraordinary band was born out of an inspiring conversation between bassist Bruce Phares and pianist Francesco Crosara, following a captivating duet performance. This discussion will shed light on WSW's journey, emphasizing the significance of its 50th anniversary by reflecting on the organization's milestones and challenges. Zona and Farhat will explore the thought process and inspiration behind curating this exhibition, underlining the vital role of non-profit art spaces like WSW located in the Hudson Valley, New York, in nurturing a diverse spectrum of American art. The conversation will be moderated by Catherine-Alice Michaelis, Associate Director of the Cynthia Sears Artist's Books Collection, followed by a reception. Women's Studio Workshop has a rich history of producing over 230 limited edition artists' books since 1979, showcasing various forms from traditional structures to intricate folded designs, all meticulously crafted in their Hudson Valley studios. Regina Porter discusses her second novel The Rich People Have Gone Away with De’Shawn Winslow, who is also celebrating the fifth anniversary of his debut novel In West Mills. Join us for an intimate conversation with the authors as Regina discusses the process of writing The Rich People Have Gone Away and they both share more about their respective publishing journeys. Regina Porter is an award-winning playwright and author of The Travelers, a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Award for Debut Novel and longlisted for the Orwell Prize for political fiction. A graduate of the MFA fiction program at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, her writing has been published in the Harvard Review, Tin House, and the Oxford American. De'Shawn Charles Winslow is the author of In West Mills, a Center for Fiction First Novel Prize winner, an American Book Award recipient, a Willie Morris Award for Southern Fiction winner, and a Los Angeles Times Book Award, Lambda Literary Award, and Publishing Triangle Award finalist.
