The journey begins in the picturesque town of Cloudcroft, where participants will park their vehicles, possibly near the Forest Service station.
On the first day, riders will embark on a ride from Cloudcroft to Mayhill, where a store awaits them at mile 41. The day's camp will be set up at Bible Canyon Mile 44. The second day brings a 10-mile ride to the Weed General Store, followed by a camp at Bluff Springs, situated at mile 98.5. At mile 69.5, an optional extra credit trail awaits adventurous riders on the Scott Abe Trail. Finally, on the third day, participants will pass through High Rolls at mile 123 before concluding the route back in Cloudcroft.
To ensure a successful journey, riders should be prepared to carry enough water for a minimum 40-60-mile ride, considering both consumption and cooking needs at camp. The route promises breathtaking scenic views and a challenging terrain, making it ideal for advanced bikepacking enthusiasts. A mountain bike or at least 50mm tires are recommended for the ride. The pace will be set according to individual comfort levels and not as a race. Riders can expect temperatures ranging from high 30's to low 70's, necessitating appropriate clothing and gear.
