Let us introduce you to these exceptional poets. Sue Weaver Dunlap, a proud multi-generation Appalachian, resides in Walland, Tennessee, nestled on a picturesque mountain farm alongside her husband, Raymond. Dunlap's remarkable body of work has graced the pages of prestigious publications such as Appalachian Journal, Appalachian Heritage, Pine Mountain Sand and Gravel, Anthology of Appalachian Writers, Kakalak, and The Southern Poetry Anthology. Notable works include A Walk to the Spring House, Iris Press (2021), Knead, Main Street Rag (2016), and Story Tender, Finishing Line Press (2014). Dunlap eloquently shares, "My kin carry stories of our culture and history here in Appalachia. Some may seem peculiar to outsiders, but to me, they are a familiar part of life. Like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon, each of us has a measured time on this planet."
Ron Lands, a retired hematologist and esteemed alumnus of Queens University of Charlotte's MFA program, dedicated many years to practicing medicine near his childhood community. Throughout his career, he had the privilege of providing care to strangers, lifelong friends, and even a few relatives. Sharing his experiences through the art of poetry, Lands has been published in various literary and medical journals. His powerful storytelling is showcased in two poetry chapbooks, Final Path and A Gathering of Friends, as well as his collection of short stories, The Long Way Home. Lands' exceptional work has even garnered a nomination for the prestigious Pushcart prize.
Sarah Pross, a proud native of Seymour, Tennessee, continues to call this beautiful town her home, where she shares her life with her beloved puppy, Charley. Graduating in 2007 with a B.A. in English Literature from Maryville College, Pross has made a name for herself as a talented poet. Her thought-provoking verses have graced the pages of esteemed publications such as Bloodroot, Kakalak, and Cathexis Northwest.
