Eco-Art Therapy: Supporting the Grief Journey “What can happen when we take the creative arts therapies and the people whom we work with out of doors in order to provide safe, creative therapeutic healing experiences?” (Heginworth, I., & Nash, G. (Eds.). (2020) In this workshop we will explore this question and delve into the realm of Eco-Art Therapy as connected to grief work. We will explore theory to support the journey and root us in ‘why we are doing what we are doing when we are doing it’. We will experience Eco-Art Therapy directives as well as spontaneous art making. Being in nature, creating with nature in our homes, thinking creatively around natural materials and expanding our perspectives around what can be an art material. We will experiment with the power of creating impermanent art in nature and the metaphors that connect this process to grief work . This workshop aims to create a foundation of knowledge that enables participants to continue to learn and develop skills related to eco-art therapy and grief. This workshop will be held outdoors at Assiniboine Park as long as the weather cooperates. If the weather is poor we will plan to meet online on zoom. Learning Objectives: Learning new eco-art therapy directives as well as spontaneous art making Expanding knowledge around ‘what are eco-art therapy materials’ and how accessible this way of working is Connecting grief work to the natural world and the rich metaphors and symbolism that lives there I encourage all participants to bring a journal / notebook, any art supplies you have a connection to, along with a few items collected from nature Meet Your Facilitator - Jess Winnicki BA, BSW, RSW, DKATI : As a trauma-informed Registered Art Therapist / Registered Social Worker, Jess bears witness to the transformation in others and in herself as she bends over her potter’s wheel and moulds the clay into vessels of containment. Healing manifests in that containment - and art is the leavening agent that feeds the growth of the individuals she works with as they traverse the circuitous journey that is life. With both feet firmly planted in a base of spirituality and mindfulness, she works in service to social justice, practicing from a place of curiosity, non-judgment, empathy and respect. I graduated from the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute (KATI) in Nelson, BC in 2018 and completed the Art of Art Therapy Supervision Levels 1 & 2 in 2023. I am currently seeing clients in my private practice in Winnipeg, MB and working towards a doctorate at University of Alberta, St. Stephens College. She is a powerful speaker, leader, and entrepreneur! Through life and death situations in their own lives, she has seen God move powerfully and radically transform and bring 'dead things' back to life. Her message will breathe faith and hope into your situation. Tanya James Tanya James is a voice of hope for the broken, the bruised, and the quietly battling. Tanya’s life took her through seasons of beauty, heartbreak, and unexpected detours. Her story isn't one of perfection—but of powerful redemption. After years trapped in silence, a dark night of the soul led her not to despair, but to a keyboard, where God began healing her heart through worship and songwriting. Today, Tanya is a recording artist and ministers across America in churches, conferences, recovery centers, and women's events. With vulnerability and authority, she shares her story to remind others: Your past doesn’t disqualify you—it prepares you for ministry. Now married to John James since 2018—former lead singer of the Newsboys—Tanya and John minister together as a powerful husband-and-wife team, carrying a message of mercy, restoration, and second chances. “My scars used to bring me shame. Now they’re the proof that healing is real—and Jesus still restores what the enemy tried to destroy.” — Tanya James Statement on NEWSBOYS Scandal from John James: “Nearly 30 Years Removed—But My Heart Still Breaks” Nearly 30 years have passed since I stepped away from the Newsboys, yet the recent news has grieved my heart deeply. Though I’ve been out of the Christian music industry for decades, I understand the pain and heartbreak moments like these can bring. My prayers are with everyone affected. My own journey is one of failure, redemption, and the God who restores—that’s why I share it. Information Source: The Source Church | eventbrite

Show Pony is a wild ride through the heart of rock and roll, dressed to thrill in cowboy hats, snake skin boots, and a shimmer of sequins. With a raw fusion of gutsy punk energy and arena-shaking rock ‘n’ roll, they pull listeners into their electrifying, glam-soaked universe. Their sound is a high-octane mix of soaring melodies, blistering spaghetti-western riffs, and infectious choruses that stick in your head long after the show ends. Show Pony has been locked in the studio working on their debut EP, slated for release in winter 2025. Prairie is the new project of Dawson Reynolds (Poodle Paddle), Ian Tata (Julien’s Daughter), Val Podlesnaia, and frontperson Moss Queen. Self-described as fitting into the categories of alternative, shoegaze and stoner rock, they have a strong 90s indie revival feel – fuzzy guitar, subdued vocals, modest bass, and brawny drumming. "What's our vibe? The Strokes (but gothic) meets Black Sabbath, make it dance-y, and throw in some synth!"- Cassette Ghost" Information Source: Times Change(d) High & Lonesome Club | eventbrite
