Washington Improv Theater is dedicated to sharing the ideas and spirit of improv with all of DC. WIT’s free introductory Improv For All workshops are high-fun, low-stress classes designed to show you how improvisers create spontaneous, off-the-cuff theater. Our enthusiastic and friendly instructors work to make sure everyone is able to participate in a playful and trusting atmosphere. You don’t need to be a “funny person.” Just come in ready to have a good time. Improv is an amazing way to help people connect with each other and have a reignite their sense of play. And we think Washington needs that pretty seriously. So join in on the fun – we offer free Improv For All workshops every month of the year! These workshops are free but registration is required. They tend to fully enroll. Washington Improv Theater strives to ensure its events are accessible to all audiences at our home stage at Studio Theatre. Please reach out to the DCPL Center for Accessibility if reasonable accommodations are needed for this in-person workshop: Phone: 202-727-2142; Videophone: 202-559-5368; or Email: DCPLaccess@dc.gov The workshop is being offered in partnership with the District of Columbia Public Libraries. Fans of cozy sci-fi unite! Join us for A Novel Night Out for a discussion of MONK AND ROBOT by Becky Chambers! Do you wish you were a tea monk sipping a brew in space? Do you want to connect with your fellow Becky Chambers enthusiasts? Join us for a one-off book club discussing MONK AND ROBOT, which includes A Psalm for the Wild Built and Prayer for the Crown Shy , now together in one book. We’ll begin with a discussion led by one of our booksellers, and wrap up with plenty of time to socialize with your fellow fans while sipping on refreshments. ABOUT MONK AND ROBOT: Becky Chambers' two award-winning, bestselling, beloved, and uplifting Monk and Robot stories, A Psalm for the Wild-Built and A Prayer for the Crown-Shy , together in trade paperback for the first time! Becky Chambers' delightful, post-Utopian, Hugo Award-winning series gives us hope for the future. It's been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they wandered, en masse, into the wilderness, never to be seen again; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend. One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered. But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how. They're going to need to ask it a lot. Becky Chambers' series asks: in a world where people have what they want, does having more matter? Accessibility Information: Built before the American Disabilities Act became law, the store's entrance and our larger downstairs space, including our event space, are not accessible by either an elevator or ramp. Please email info@eastcitybookshop.com with any questions you have about accessibility and accommodations. Information Source: East City Bookshop | eventbrite

Arts Fine Art
How can visual art disrupt constraints of representation, and offer sets of techniques for solidarity and fabulating the future? How do diasporic artists from West Asia and North Africa draw from their personal and cultural histories, iconography and practices to create something new altogether? Drawing inspiration from traditional gathering spaces in the Middle East and North Africa where people exchange news and socialize, A Cultural Majlis: The Aesthetics of Solidarity/Fabulation seeks to explore the intersecting practices of artists who use their work to write against the archive, awaken alternative histories and exceed representation. Organized by arts administrator, independent curator and arts researcher Laila Abdul-Hadi Jadallah , the program will include an introductory lecture from Haley Renee , poetry reading by Lenna Jawdat , a moderated panel featuring Ebtisam Abdulziz , Hannah Atallah and Jackie Milad, performance art by Ebtisam Abdulaziz, and an audience talk-back. Guests will be invited to sit with the guest speakers on a majlis created by artist Hannah Atallah . Join us for an afternoon of dialogue, reflection, and exploration of new narratives and artistic territories. Please note registration is required due to limited seating capacity. This program was selected from Hamiltonian Artists open call, which invites artists, organizers, and cultural workers to present professional presentations in our U Street gallery space. About the Organizer Laila Abdul-Hadi Jadallah is a Palestinian-American arts administrator, independent curator and researcher whose work spans museums, non-profit spaces, public art and cultural diplomacy. She is interested in the alternative histories, new visual languages, practices of fabulation and contributions of modern and contemporary diasporic artists from West Asia and North Africa and other diasporic communities from the global majority to the cultural fabric of Washington, D.C. and the broader art historical canon. She has curated and co-curated several exhibitions featuring West Asia and North Africa and its diaspora including More Than Your Eyes Can See: Contemporary Photography of the Arab World (2022), Perfume in Exile (2025) and the forthcoming exhibitions Arab Pop Art: Between East and West and Multitudes: Arab Women Artists/DC . Her work has been featured in the Washington Post , Canvas Magazin e, the National News and will be included in the forthcoming anthology, A Decolonial Guide to Palestine published by Duke University Press.
