NERD_FUNK is a kaleidoscopic exploration of the far-reaching influence of social media on our visual and digital culture. Divided into five immersive chapters, three in VR and two audiovisual and spatial, artists Ali Eslami and Mamali Shafahi, assisted by Pensive Vivifier, present the extensive research they worked on for seven years, from April 4 at MU Hybrid Art House. Through a virtual entity they created, which they called nerd_funk, Eslami and Shafahi collected the Instagram Stories of more than 1,000 people from 2018. All those dedicated but also critical creators were at the forefront of creative use of the platform. They filled their Instagram feeds with an unending stream of images through which a new aesthetic emerged. This archive became the basis for the five NERD_FUNK storylines, each reflecting an aspect of the quirky Instagram culture. But if anything is changing fast, it is internet culture, that's what the makers of NERD_FUNK are well aware of. To keep up with these developments, they asked Marijn Bril, curator specialized in digital culture, to create a portal that reads like a kind of social media library. That portal - full of books, images, sites and five works by young makers that in turn also loosely refer to the five storylines - forms the entrance/exit to the worlds called NERD_FUNK. So get ready for an immersive trip that both throws you back into the boundless hybridity of the post-digital, pre-covid era and propels you into the chaotic post-all now. A state of being in which the lines between public and private are completely shifted and new combinations of narcissism and voyeurism reign supreme. But above all, a brave attempt by the artists to assign artistic value to the useless overload so characteristic of socials. An overload we all contribute to and completely lose ourselves in. De (on)voorspelbare voorstelling - 100% improvisatie Onvoorspelbaar, hilarisch, spannend en soms ontroerend. De spelers van 'Gewoon Accepteren' improvisatietheater weten je altijd te verrassen. De scènes variëren van diep dramatisch tot hilarisch absurd, maar zijn altijd herkenbaar en vooral lachwekkend. In deze voorstelling heeft geen enkele speler een script. Wat er gebeurt, ontstaat ter plekke. De spelleider leest de opdracht voor en vraagt het publiek om input. Met deze gegevens starten de spelers aan hun scene, waarbij niemand weet welke kant het op gaat. Er is geen voorbereiding, er zijn geen vaste afspraken – als speler moet je gewoon accepteren wat het spel aanbod is tijdens de scene. De voorstelling bestaat uit twee delen: in het eerste deel voeren de spelers opdrachten uit, in het tweede deel strijden ze in teams tegen elkaar om de meest dramatische of grappige scène neer te zetten. Introduction4-20 is celebrated as the International Day for the magic herb i.e., cannab*s. We noticed that Eindhoven does not have a single event celebrating this special plant. We decided to change this last year by conducting a cool event at our resident comedy venue, Burgers titled Jokes & Smokes. Eerder ontvangen we Bart Giepmans voor zijn presentatie over Perron Europa, een avond vol mooie reisverhalen welke een wervelend succes bleek. Ditmaal komt Giepmans terug naar Boekhandel Van Piere voor Perron Europa 2. Het mooiste boek over treinreizen in Europa 2.0. The Portuguese trio consists of Ana Gonçalves Albino (guitar, effects), Catarina Custódio Silva (French horn) and Maria Do Mar (violin, effects). At the request of the trio, two Portuguese musicians living in the Netherlands have been invited to play with them. Both regularly play in POM; Nuno Silva (sax) & Gonçalo Almeida (double bass). In short, it will be a unique evening. The three Arpyies with long vulture wings: these winged women arrive to challenge sounds and people, and to contradict the status quo. Coming from a place of restlessness, they instigate change in the unaltered succession of real life. Turning everything upside down, as in mythology, in the here and now. Exploring the higher and lower limits of the audible, descending into the dense bass of the horn, or rising into the gritty crystallinity of a guitar. Establishing a balance in the air, a violin suddenly arrives in downward flight. At other times, the three get carried away by invisible winds, blending with them. Ana Gonçalves Albino - guitar, effects A guitarist with a unique background steeped in classical music and jazz. She seeks to make music in an open, broad and above all personal universe. Composition and improvisation are an integral part of her work in diversified artistic contexts. She regularly works with theatre, contemporary dance and multimedia. After studying at the Hot Club school and ESML, she began to develop her own musical language through composition, improvisation (either free or with specific guidelines) and the exploration of electronics. Throughout her journey she has performed on stages such as Festival Paredes de Coura or the Roman Theatre in Verona. She currently collaborates with musicians from various creative universes, working in the fields of folk, indie, classical, jazz and free improvisation. Catarina Custódio Silva - French horn With a higher-education training in so-called classical music, currently the horn player combines performance in her area of training with the creation of improvised music and teaching.She has performed internationally at lyrical and symphonic music festivals (Mediterranean Opera Studio and Festival, Esker Festival Orchestra, Aurora Music Festival). Her recent activities include collaborations with Artis XXI ensembles and the Profound Whatever collective, as well as taking part in the MIA – Encontro de Música Improvisada de Atouguia da Baleia (Atouguia da Baleia Improvised Music Meeting) and Humanifest 2023. Maria Do Mar - Violin, effects Eclectic violinist with a transdisciplinary background. Her creative approach explores convergences and divergences between so-called classical music, teaching, experimental and improvised music, cinema, theatre, dance, and political activism - nurturing a unique intuitive sensibility to create a language of her own. Co-founder and member of the sextet Lantana (national television channel RTP Prize as Best Group of 2022, Revelation Group 2022 by El Intruso pole of critics) and of several other ensembles, she also played with top musicians such as Joelle Léandre, Carlos Zíngaro , Ernesto Rodrigues, João Paulo Esteves da Silva, Carlos Bica, Joana Guerra, Rodrigo Amado, Gonçalo Almeida, Susana Santos Silva, Nuno Rebelo, Mia Zabelka and Sofia Borges, among many others. Her transdisciplinary projects include Grão (music, performance, installation, video), musical theatre with Opera Lab Berlin and collaborations with poets like Nuno Moura, Raquel Lima, Gisela Casimiro, Jan and Romke Kleefstra. Sundeep Bhardwaj brings together hilarious stories from his life, and his perspective on the crisis in the middle east. An Indian Luxembourgish comedian talking about Israel and Palestine?! What could go wrong? Relax. Lets have an evening with a bit of ridiculous history, some storytelling, and lots of jokes! Sundeep was born in India, but now identifies as a Luxembourger. With his unique style of comedic storytelling, Sundeep takes audiences on a roller-coaster ride of misadventures as an Indian immigrant, from being married to a Polish woman and getting thrown out of a church, to being mistaken for a kidnapper. Growing up with a disability, he was terrified of public speaking, but now he jokes about disability, mostly because he can. A banker turned comedian, he is also a writer and actor, and recently had the pleasure of getting brutally murdered on a Netflix show, which made a lot of people very happy. Especially his ex-wife. We will talk about ... Colonization, Israel, Palestine, India, UK, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, the US, Trump, Biden, Netanyahu, Zionists, Hummus, internet trolls, bots, tunnels, history, propaganda, lies, Elon Musk, ceasefire, and.......... COMEDY! The jokes will be pretty uncensored, and may not be for everybody. If you are easily offended, this show may not be for you. Come take some creative time for yourself and relax whilst learning to paint dynamic and lively plants and florals! BEGINNER-FRIENDLY No drawing or painting experience necessary; we’ll provide everything for you to learn useful techniques under the guidance of illustrator Laura Carter. Each edition will have different choices of botanical subjects to make a vibrant painting of, and you'll pick up the fundamentals which can be applied to any painting subject, not just botanicals. Ponga is a music group that thrives on the possibilities of free improvisation, which is at the core of everything they play. Their performances blend compositional forms, infectious grooves, and unconventional melodies, often originating from experimentation and free play. In Ponga, every member of the trio—violist Yanna Pelser, guitarist Timon Koomen, and drummer/percussionist Remco Menting—switches between percussive, melodic, and harmonic roles, resulting in eclectic performances that encompass a variety of musical styles, including soundscapes, rock, jazz, classical and global music. Formed in 2023, with Yanna joining two former members of the acclaimed trio Kapok, Ponga is a relatively new group consisting of seasoned performers; With over 15 years of performance experience in the Dutch and international jazz and classical scenes, the members bring a wealth of expertise to the group. Remco, rooted in improvised jazz and African drumming, is always on the lookout for new sounds and instruments in his already unusual percussion setup. Jazz guitarist Timon would bring 10 guitars on stage if it was possible; if only it were to be able to subtly choose the right feeling for the music. Yanna, mainly rooted in classical music, is challenged by the formation to find new creative ways on her viola. The members also share a background in theatre, which contributes to their distinctive stage presence often marked by the change of multiple outfits.
