Where Big Ideas Take Root and Transform Communities
The
Change Bowl
is more than a competition—it’s a launchpad for young changemakers (ages 8-18) with bold visions to enhance their schools and communities. Inspired by the popular
Shark Tank
format, participants will take the stage to present their innovative projects to a panel of community leaders who will deliberate and award funding to bring the most promising ideas to life.
This year, we are
Planting Seeds of Change
, recognizing that every idea—no matter how small—has the potential to grow into something extraordinary. Just as a garden flourishes with care, encouragement, and the right resources, Change Bowl nurtures young leaders, empowering them to take action and create lasting impact in their communities.

SHINE U: Junk Journaling | House of Shine
Apr 12, 2025 (UTC-5)ENDED
Grapevine
SHINE U
is an in-house program that highlights the letters "H" hobbies, "I" interests/irritants and "E" experiences from our SHINE framework. The objective is to foster discovery, exploration and experimentation for our participants in a low stakes kind of way. SHINE U workshops connect people with unique hobbies, interests/irritants & experiences to help promote learning, diversity, inclusivity and community.
In this workshop, facilitated by Amanda Sapera, you'll explore the creative process of perseving memories through "junk" materials. Learn how to transform everyday items like receipts, food wrappers, stickets, any and all mementos, telling your personal stories in a visual way. It's the perfect way to use items you think are "junk" into a piece of art that displays your daily life.
Meet our facilitator: Amanda Sapera!
Amanda Sapera is a 35-year-old Plano resident and dedicated first-grade teacher with a decade of experience in the North Dallas area. Passionate about creativity and memory keeping, in 2024, she founded the DFW Junk Journal Club, which now boasts over 100 members. The club meets multiple times a month across the metroplex, offering a welcoming space for fellow journal enthusiasts to share techniques, create, and preserve memories together. When she’s not teaching or journaling, Amanda enjoys making memories worth preserving. She loves spending time with family and friends, traveling, attending sporting events, and exploring new restaurants and activities in the community—giving her plenty of inspiration for her journaling projects!
