The Panama City Symphony takes off on a celestial adventure, featuring mesmerizing projections and our Emerging Artists Competition Grand Prize Winner (High School Division) Didi Stone! Start out at Lightspeed, then soar with Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. Continue your journey, being propelled through space with Gustav Holst’s, The Planets. The stage is set for an unforgettable stellar evening among the galaxies, stars, nebulas, and planets. Join flutist Mary Matthews for an evening of musical storytelling as she presents Flutelore. Each work for solo flute, flute and electronics, or flute and piano is inspired by fairytale, folklore, and mythology. From the meditative to the adventurous, the program will include low flutes, flute beatboxing, electroacoustic works and more.A dynamic and versatile performer, Mary Matthews is flute professor at Florida State University’s College of Music. She enjoys an active career as an international soloist, chamber musician, orchestral flutist, session musician, author, and pedagogue, and she has performed on four continents in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Severance Hall, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Fundação Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina, Festival Goethe Institut Música Nueva, and Cité Internationale des Arts. An active studio musician and recording artist, Mary can be heard on soundtracks for film, TV, and video games on Netflix, HBO, and Disney.
