Kids on the Geaux Camp features the "Seeds of Nutrition" curriculum created by the Mendez Foundation and covers topics such as goal setting, making responsible decisions, essential nutrients, exercise, and the importance of sleep. Day 1 - Social Skill Development: Setting reachable goals, making responsible decisions, managing emotions, and effective communication. Day 2 - Nutrition: Essential nutrients, benefits of hydration, sleep, and exercise. Kids on the Geaux Camp Camp is for middle school students ages 9-13 years old. Kids on the Geaux teaches students to weigh the positive and negative consequences of their choices as they examine how their emotions influence their goals and decisions. Students practice setting reachable goals, making responsible decisions, and communicating effectively with pro-social peers in fun, interactive games, activities, and role-play. Workshop 7: Tulips– I had the great fortune to visit Amsterdam in 2022 and have many photos we can use for inspiration. Tulips can be painted in a loose and fun way or very detailed. If time allows, we will touch on how to paint a field of tulips with perspective. These classes have workshop in the title because each class will be delving into learning specific techniques and “mini” because they are only 2-1/2 hours long. The beauty of this format is that you can pick and choose which specific classes that you want to take based on your own interests and schedule. No long-term commitment is required. However, it is highly recommended that you have some previous watercolor experience or have taken a beginning watercolor class before. pARTiculars has several beginning watercolor class options available through this or other instructors. NOTE: In this class you might NOT complete an entire painting, as each class will be instruction on specific techniques that can be used in your own individual future paintings. We are the Digbytown Fraternal Order of Leatherheads Society (F.O.O.L.S.). Our chapter is comprised of local Firefighters from both volunteer and paid departments from Lafayette, Indiana, and the surrounding area. Our mission as a group is to preserve Firefighter tradition and brotherhood as well as provide training and instruction to firefighters in our local area. Our core value is brotherhood above all. We organize benefits to assist not only firefighters but our local communities as well. We are excited to announce our 3rd Annual "April F.O.O.L’s Ball." This will be an adult-only formal event to celebrate our first responders, where we can all dress up in formal attire and enjoy some time away from our stressful career. The event is open to all those who serve their community, to include Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, and Nurses. We are extremely greatful to the Rat Pak for providing us an amazing venue this year in downtown Lafayette. The Rat Pak venue describes themselves as a premier venue with over 3000 square feet of space including a ball room and a lounge with a private bar. They occupy one of Lafayette's historical buildings on 3rd Street across from the Lafayette Court House. Their venue is located on the second floor above Nom Nom Tacos.There will be a photo booth for each couple or group to get some quality photos together, and we will also have some quality items provided for bid through a silent auction. This educational and practical workshop will explore: Cactus Grafting Techniques : Learn how to graft Trichocereus cacti, an essential propagation method for improving growth rates in rare and desirable specimens. This session will include a hands-on tutorial covering practical techniques to ensure successful unions. No prior cactus cultivation experience is required. P lant Alkaloid Extraction (Non-Cactus) : A demonstration of safe methods for extracting legal alkaloids from plant material, offering an introduction to the fascinating chemical properties of plants. You will learn how to use a liquid resist to create your design on the silk. We will take a short lunch break while the resist dries and then paint the scarf with special silk dyes. We will set the dyes and wash and iron to finish your piece. Your creation is a perfect gift to give a loved one for a special occasion - you can have the whole family participate. Project Innovate: Innovation and Engineering Summer Camp, 9am-3pm In this five day camp, your child will develop skills in design and engineering through hands-on robotics and design challenges. Biomimicry, looking to nature for inspiration for our own designs, will be part of the experiences. Throughout the week we will visit several engineering labs to deepen students understanding of how engineering can be used to solve problems facing humanity. We will video conference with leading experts in robotics and biomimicry. Students will swim at the UL pool, weather permitting. All lunches are provided. This course is taught by experienced teachers with STEM experience and assisted by UL education Majors. • Workshop 3: Summer Trees – For this class we will learn how to paint loose but realistic fully leafed out summer trees. Included in this class will be some instruction on mixing the right colors for trees and tree trunks. These classes have workshop in the title because each class will be delving into learning specific techniques and “mini” because they are only 2-1/2 hours long. The beauty of this format is that you can pick and choose which specific classes that you want to take based on your own interests and schedule. No long-term commitment is required. However, it is highly recommended that you have some previous watercolor experience or have taken a beginning watercolor class before. (See Laurie’s Beginning Watercolor – the Basics.) NOTE: In this class, the intent is to end with at least one completed mini painting but with the understanding that individuals may work at different pace. So, you might not complete an entire painting but will have learned techniques that can be carried forward with future painting endeavors. Instructor: Laurie Adams ( www.loreleiarts.us ) Adults & Teens 13 and over – Minimum 2, maximum 8 Prerequisite: Some previous experience required. For beginning watercolor students who have taken a watercolor class before, existing watercolor artists whose techniques are rusty, or artists who want some continuing instruction or who want to learn new techniques. If you have no experience, I suggest you take a beginning watercolor class prior to this class as some of the techniques may be more difficult without some prior basic watercolor technique knowledge.
