De 1799 à 1855, le cimetière Sainte-Antoine a accueilli environ 70 000 sépultures, dont beaucoup ont été enterrées dans des fosses communes en raison d’une série d’épidémies de choléra qui ont frappé la ville. Dans ce cimetière catholique, toutes sortes d’atrocités se sont produites. Les médecins ont autopsié les corps à l’air libre. Les prêtres ont conseillé aux femmes enceintes de subir l’horrible opération de «baptême des nourrissons». Les gens ont été enterrés vivants. Aujourd’hui, le vieux cimetière est caché sous deux des parcs urbains les plus beaux et les plus prisés de Montréal, le parc Dorchester et la Place du Canada. En raison de l’histoire atroce qui s’est déroulée dans l’ancien cimetière Sainte-Antoine, ces parcs sont aujourd’hui un lieu de prédilection pour les activités paranormales au centre-ville de Montréal. Our film lineup: Fade-In (2023, Somaye Farhan and Soha Zandi, 4 min) In this silent five-minute single-channel video installation, we "hear" louder than any voice can tell. This documentary is a poetic response from women in the diaspora to the patriarchal coercion imposed on women in Iran. You know, there are ghosts under the tree (2023, LEE Ruri, 14 min) It's a scorching summer. The girl and the boy cannot attend the festivities on the eve of the school festival. Then Kali says to the wandering children: "You know, where the festivities are taking place, as far as the shadow of the sacred tree reaches, young spirits are gathered under it.” I Leave My Little Heart in My Mother's Chest (2024, Sawsan AlSaraf, 6 min) Reflecting on the passage of time and the influence of nature, the project is a short film and installation featuring my mother’s wooden cabinet. Moving Water (2024, Kaia Singh, 13 min) A young biracial woman, Mira (18), struggles to find her place and purpose amongst her family members as they grieve the death of her Baba (grandfather). As the cremation takes place and the preparations are being made for the spreading of the Baba’s ashes Mira attempts to mend the estranged relationship she has with her Dadi (grandmother) in hope of finding familial and cultural validity for her grief. Hair Universe (2023, CHOI Jinuk, 12 min) A grieving boy finds the hair of his recently deceased mother caught in the drainage hole in the shower and gets swept into an unknown world underneath the bathtub. Sticky Candy (2024, KIM Eui-Jeong, 14 min) In the early morning, Ji-eun makes eye contact with a woman on the bed. Are you back again?! Likewise, Ji-eun is also trying to get rid of women. Living with a woman who ends up ruining everything! Eventually, the woman's identity is revealed. Variation (2024, PARK Ji-hoon, 30 min) A couple who have broken up and reunited experience intimate yet unfamiliar moments.
