The Weight of the Invisible is a two-part exhibition dedicated to the documentary work of the filmmaker and photographer Wang Bing (b. 1967 in Xi’an, China, lives in Paris). While Wang Bing’s films are epic in their length and their historical and political scope, they are less concerned with grand events than with the small gestures and everyday acts on which the concrete form and substance of human life rests. The artist devotes a special kind of attention to the small, incidental, and marginal – one that knows that existential weight does not necessarily lie in the obvious, but rather in the in-between, in the interstitial, in the enduring, and in what accumulates.

Germany held Japanese cultural festivals irregularly from 1999 to 2000, and received support from many Japanese companies. Later, the North Rhine-Westphalia State Government and the Düsseldorf City Government decided to hold the Japan Festival, which was supported by local Japanese companies.

If you don't know where to start with planting a native container garden, then this workshop is for you! We'll demonstrate planting techniques and talk about plant selection. There will be a quick walk to see some containers on display, but most of this workshop will be standing at a table. Accomodations can be made if needed! Plants will be provided for your choice of sun or shade container. Instructions for where to place containers over winter will be discussed so containers can be displayed each year. Bring a planter of your choosing approximately 16"-20" diameter and at least 11" deep. If you need help selecting one, let us know. If your container is deeper than 13" please let us know so we can be prepared because soil will be provided. There is an option at check-out to pick a shade or a sun container.
