Learning outcomes:
At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
1. Analyse the pathophysiology and differentiate between various types of dementia,
including Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, and
frontotemporal dementia, to inform accurate diagnosis and guide clinical decision-
making.
2. Implement person-centred care approaches that prioritise the dignity, autonomy, and
quality of life of dementia patients, adapting care strategies to meet the evolving needs
of individuals.
3. Apply advanced communication techniques to effectively interact with dementia
patients, addressing cognitive and behavioural challenges to ensure compassionate
and clear communication that supports patient understanding and comfort.
4. Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams, including neurologists, geriatricians, nurses,
social workers, and allied health professionals, to develop and implement
comprehensive care plans that address the medical, psychological, and social needs of
dementia patients and their families.
Suitable for
Healthcare professionals e.g. registered nurses and nursing associates, health visitors, midwives and healthcare assistants.
Delivery Method
Discussion will be contemporary utilising a range of interactive strategies, incorporating a personalised, interactive case study simulation where participants can apply their learning in real-time.
Facilitators
This masterclass is facilitated by Associate Professors in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Public Health, with a long-standing background in mental health and suicide prevention.

Certificate of attendance which can be used to evidence professional revalidation.
