At the conclusion of this conference participants should be able to: Define indications for surgical intervention with foot and ankle traumatic injuries for improved outcomes compared to nonsurgical cases. Discuss different treatment options for ankle arthritis including total ankle replacement and fusion. Demonstrate intervention strategies for big toe arthritis as well as sports related injuries. Course Directors: Adam Bitterman, DO Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Foot & Ankle Surgery Assistant Professor, Zucker School of Medicine Geoffrey Phillips, MD Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Foot & Ankle Surgery Assistant Professor, Zucker School of Medicine Statement of Need: Orthopedic foot and ankle surgeons, as well as the team of clinicians involved throughout the patient continuum of care, are now presented with a multitude of new surgical and non-surgical options that are taken into consideration when providing treatment for orthopedic and musculoskeletal patient populations. Due to a lack of knowledge surrounding these new innovations within the field of orthopedics, as well as minimal evidence-based outcomes research, caregivers are now finding themselves having to make difficult decisions when treating a patient and developing his/her plan of care, often evoking peer-to-peer controversy. This educational activity is designed to change how a clinician will consider a patient's plan of care after recognizing the potential positive and negative impacts posed by the variety of clinical interventions, both in the orthopedic continuum & rehabilitation continuum of care in order to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. Target Audience: This program is designed for MDs, PAs, PTs, and ATCs. Other members of the healthcare team including NPs, RNs, Fellows, Residents and Medical and Physical Therapy Students are invited to attend. Joint Accreditation Statement: In support of improving patient care, Northwell Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. Credit Designations: Physicians: Northwell Health designates this activity for 4.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Nurses: Northwell Health designates this activity for 4.5 ANCC contact hours. Physician Assistants: Northwell Health has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA. Athletic Trainer Credit Designation: Northwell Health Rehabilitation Network (BOC AP#: P8350) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Certified Athletic Trainers.
