curriculum in person. We will be hosting our newly developed fundraising fundamentals course from the
Delmore Buddy Daye Learning Institute

If you are looking to learn the basics of what fundraising is about, to root your practices is community-centric principles, and to learn about the history of giving outside of the Eurocentric practices, this course is for you.

We will be drawing on the expertise and guidance of a number of fundraising professionals to teach course curriculum. Instructors will have a mix of experience from annual giving, marketing and communications, to working with foundations and corporate partners.

Camila Periera
Camila is a Black woman born and raised in Brazil. She understood from a very young age that race relations, identity and gender roles were central not only to her family but to herself and that skin color in Brazil dictates your role, future and existence within society. Camila is a senior fundraising professional in Toronto, an avid researcher and consultant on issues of race, gender, diversity, social justice and equity, as well as a coach to Brazilians involved in philanthropy and fundraising in Brazil and Canada. She holds a PhD in Public Policy/Public Administration & International Relations.
Liz LeClair, Course Administrator & Co-Host
Founder, UpRising Philanthropic Consulting
Liz LeClair is a fundraiser, advocate, activist, and an intersectional feminist, bringing 20 years of experience to her work as the founder of UpRising Philanthropic Consulting. Liz lives and works in Punamu’kwati’jk (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia), which is located in
Mi’kma’ki
- the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people.
Liz approaches her work with nonprofit organizations through a
community-centric fundraising
lens, recognizing that equity and inclusion are fundamental to the work. She believes these principles must also be at the heart of fundraising, ensuring that philanthropy is both ethical, inclusive, and just.
A dedicated leader in the fundraising sector, Liz has served on local Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) boards, was the past chair of the
AFP Women’s Impact Initiative
, and was on the board for the
Certified Fund Raising Professionals
(CFRE). She currently sits on the board of the
African American Development Officer Network
(AADO) as its only Canadian member.
