WORKSHOP CONTENT & LEARNING OUTCOMES: There’s more to the birds we encounter on a day in the hills than just “Little Brown Jobs”. Join Alex Rhodes on a guided walk and learn about the types of bird present in our hills, moorlands and mountains. This workshop will cover: Methods to identify birds common to upland environments, namely by sight and sound How different habitats influence what species we might see and where The impact of seasonality on birds Conservation issues surrounding our feathered friends. This workshop is orientated towards anyone operating in the upland environment under a professional leadership context; award holders and trainees alike. However, it is also suitable for those wishing to simply increase their own personal understanding of birds. We will be out for around 3-4 hours. An ‘aide memoire’ will be distributed electronically after the event. This workshop is eligible for MTA, AMI and BAIML CPD points WHAT TO BRING: Come suitably dressed for a morning on the hill with personal food and drink. Friday 2 May, 2025 - Leek History Walk -2pm Led by Debby and Terry Potts, the walk will look at buildings in and around the town centre of Leek many of which were designed by architect William Sugden and his son Larner Sugden. The walk will be based on a walk that features in a publication entitled ' Ray's Rambles' published by the late Ray Poole. His town walk was digitised in 2022 by the walk leader and others to enable visitors and local residents learn more about the history of the town of Leek. The walk will be about an hour in length. The SUP Safer Award is for those new to Stand Up Paddleboarding, wanting to gain knowledge and raise their awareness of their personal safety. You will explore and learn to appreciate the potential hazards you might encounter and be prepared to avoid or deal with them. After formal morning training and rescue practice Steve will take you on a short journey where we can discuss site specific hazards and procedures further developing your safe paddling. A BCAB eCertificate is available (a printed copy will be available for an additional fee of £5) if you have met the criteria and would like or need evidence of your attendance on the course. Having completed the SUP Safer Award you might consider the SUP Sheltered Water Award Water. To arrange a SUP Safer course at your workplace or club please get in touch (emberson.s.c@gmail.com).
