Led by our experienced instructor, Christina Bengtson, this fast-paced class will cover the safety and proper use of the butane micro torch, a valuable tool for any jewelry maker. During the class, students will have the opportunity to explore different butane torch options and learn about basic equipment for fire use. Additionally, participants will gain skills in cleaning metals and working with sterling silver, fine silver, and copper. The class will cover important techniques such as flame control, metal gauging, annealing, work hardening, flattening, texturing, and shaping wire. This prerequisite class is designed to introduce students to the world of working with fire and the endless possibilities it offers. By the end of the class, participants will have created their own earrings and pendants in their choice of metal. Please note that a kit fee of $10, payable in cash or check to the instructor on the day of the class, is required. All other tools will be provided for use during the class. Join SheJumps and Emerald Water Anglers for the SheJumps x Emerald Water Anglers Fly Fishing Community Series in Seattle, Washington. This series will take place monthly from September to February and offers a unique opportunity to learn about fly fishing while mingling with fellow anglers in the area. Throughout the series, you will have the chance to enhance your knowledge and skills in fly fishing. Each evening will feature a social component, allowing you to meet and connect with other anglers. The events will be held at Emerald Water Anglers, except for the November 9 event, which will be at Filson Seattle. During the series, you will learn about various aspects of fly fishing. The September 14 event will focus on fly fishing gear, including different rod types, reels, and lines. Additionally, tips for choosing waders and wading boots will be shared. On October 12, you will learn how to set up your fly fishing equipment, practicing knots and understanding leaders and tippets for different fishing setups. The November 9 event at Filson Seattle will cover winter fishing and discuss nymph rig systems, floating, intermediate, and sinking lines. In January, the discussion will shift to the waters in Washington, including oceans, rivers, and lakes, and the equipment best suited for each fishery. Finally, in February, you will explore PNW flies and hatches, delving into basic entomology and the flies commonly used in the Pacific Northwest. To participate in this event, sign the SheJumps Participant Waiver. Please refrain from attending if you have any cold-like symptoms to prioritize the health of the community. Cancellation policies apply, with varying refund percentages depending on the timing of the cancellation.
